Adapter for Ziess Compact Primes

If PL lenses need to be shinned then would it make any difference to get the same lens with a different mount? The Ziess CP2 lenses come with different mounts so I would think it would all be the same. I agree that these lenses are very pricy. We may only order 1 or 2 primary ones and rent others if needed for certain shots.
I think there's a misunderstanding here. There's no disadvantage to having the PL mount. There's nothing about a PL mount that makes it inherently "need" shimming whereas other mounts don't.

The difference is -- cinema lenses are usually designed and marked in such a way that they have extremely precise focus markings. In order for those focus markings to actually be accurate, the lens will have to be at the perfect distance from the sensor. Stills camera lenses get around this because they aren't accurately marked! They only have basic "ballpark" focus measurements. So if they're slightly off, nobody notices and nobody cares. But on a cinema lens, when you have a focus mark for 3' 4", and another focus mark for 3' 6", you want those to be accurate. The PL mount is designed to allow for easy shimming so that you can get it perfectly lined up.

Zeiss will be delivering the CP2 lenses with m4/3 mount by end of february. So, if you consider to buy new ones there is no need for a adapter.

There is very much a need if you want to be able to share your lenses among multiple cameras, and have all of the lenses have accurate focus marks. Lenses in m4/3, EF and Nikon mounts don't allow this.
