Active D-Lighting for shooting video?

On Canon cameras, there is an "Active Tone Priority" feature which some people seem to recommend for shooting video as the drop off for the highlights is a little more tapered and gradual. Thus, blown highlights don't seem to stand out as much.

I know that Nikons have something called "Active D-Lighting" but I'm not sure if it works the same way or how it affects video.

Does anyone know or have done tests?
