Activate?

Hey everyone!

I'm fairly new to the forum, been lurking and absorbing what I can from the wealth of knowledge here in this forum.

I just got my AF100A several days ago and I've been wading through the menus. I noticed there was this menu item named "activate" and in it there's stuff like "export product serial", "activation list", etc... I get a sense that it's for a firmware upgrade but I haven't done anything to it yet besides cooking up some custom scene files.

In the activation list menu there was one item there, PS 1080/60p. I didn't notice if it was in the recording format before or not, but I have been able to use it despite the activation.

So what is it exactly?

Thanks in advance!

Your instincts are correct, it's for activating optional firmware updates. On the original AF100, 1080/60p PS doesn't exist, but you can buy a firmware update package from Panasonic and "activate" it to add PS mode to your menus. So the "activate" menu item you've found is the process by which someone would go about adding 1080/60P to an original AF100. If there are any other, future optional firmware updates made available, you would use the activate menu to enable those functions. Since your AF100A already comes with that 1080/60P menu item, there's not really anything useful your "activate" menu will do right now, until (if) another future firmware update comes out.
