This is an awesome 12-hour "film school" seminar given by Guy Magar who is a Hollywood director with extensive TV and feature film experience. He does the seminar all over the country for $375 and sells the DVD version of the entire seminar for $295. It's 12 hours of material on the DVD's and a binder with all the printed materials. I'm asking $200 and I'll pay the postage.

It's outstanding training because the emphasis is on showing how to read scenes from a script and then plan out how to shoot them. He goes step-by-step from script to shoot and it's really illuminating. Shot lists, camera angles, blocking, camera moves, diagraming, etc. You can read all you want about it but to hear an experienced director's thought process is tremendously valuable.

You can read more about it at www.actioncut.com

His experience is all film but he knows that all the attendees shoot on DV and so he tailors the program to us. He also gives a lot of info on distribution and working the festivals. All in all, VERY comprehensive and totally experience-based (i.e. REAL world stuff).

I've been through the whole thing about 5 times and it's amazing how this stuff is lodged in my brain. When I read script pages now, I'm sitting there visualizing the whole thing in my head and automatically coming up with 2 or 3 different ways I'd shoot it. I didn't do that before. In fact, I'd usually sit there and have a lot of trouble imagining how I'd shoot it.

He really seems like a cool guy too. I regretted not being able to attend the live seminar he gave here in LA in March. But I'm also glad I bought the DVD course instead of waiting 6 months for the next live seminar.

FYI...I went to his three day film school 2 years ago. It was terrific and a real turning point. If the DVD is the same, it's a bargain.
