acoustic music recording

I've gotten some requests to record / document some music. That is, a video with the emphasis on audio. Acoustic instruments (guitar, piano), some voice, etc. From solos acts to community orchestras. So far I've pointed most of them toward people with better audio skills / equipment than I have. But... I'm getting more interested in the audio side of things and want to improve my audio skills.

I need / want to up my audio game. This is going to take some education, experimentation, and good old fashioned work on my part. Part of what I need, is an online forum like DVXuser, but for audio. I've got GearSlutz, but that's mainly musicians recording themselves and others. Just like DVXuser is mostly about video, GearSlutz is mostly about musicians. What I'm looking for is a forum that's mostly about audio capture and processing. Seems like it should be easy to find (if it exists), but I haven't found it yet.

So... is there a music recording equivalent of DVXuser? If so, please point me toward it.

Your take on Gearslutz is not accurate. Go to the sub forum Remote Possibilities in Acoustic Music & Location Recording:

There are many professional recordists that frequent that forum.

Yes to both of these

The Gearslutz Remote Forum is perfect for what you want to do, as is also the Sound On Sound forum.

You need to mic up properly as if you are doing an audio only recording and then insert the cameras - mics in shot don't matter very much when music is the top priority.

Yes, this. I looked for something like this but didn't find it. On several occasions. I must not think the way the GearSlutz forum organizers think. But that's not exactly unusual. Thanks for the URL. Can't miss that!

Yes, that is actually my plan -- to put the mics in the shot. I think I can sell it. Otherwise, what's the point?

The Gearslutz Remote forum has lots of professional location recordists on it - people who really know their stuff - so it's a really a good forum to look at if you want to learn.
