Acne

ew Ew EW!

Is there any horror storys you had growing up through those years, trying to deal with acne? Maybe your still troubled by it, or whatever. But I think there's alot of people out there who try absolutly everything to get rid of it, and no matter how much things start to work.. they just creep back.

I bumped into this guy on the bus the other day, his face looked like he stuck his head in a bee box. I felt sorry for him, I think it's bad how your life & confidence can be taken a hit from something like that.

Since I couldn't find a topic on it, thought I'd start one anyway.

Acne is one of those diseases like asthma in that it hits people in a lot of different ways, so the same treatments don't work for everyone. 2 things helped mine, wiping my face with Johnson & Johnson's Clean & Clear (Salicylic Acid) 2 times a day, and drinking liquid amino acids. I never had a horrific case though like you described, though.

I had it pretty bad for a while back in the day. My parents sent me to a VERY expensive world renowned Dermatologist and within in 2 weeks my face was a smooth as a baby's @ss and has been that way since. Ance can be hard to deal with as a kid and just as difficult as an adult.

I was very fortunate to not have more than the occasional single zit on the end of the nose of the forehead .. and even then it only happened a handful of times. But my best friend had it very bad and his parents also sent him to several dermatologistst to get it under control. I always felt sorry for him, as you mentioned, it definitely sapped his self-confidence ... and other than that he was a very popular, well liked guy ... but he fought it mentally for a long time.

Man, "Gnarly" is right. I just looked it up quickly, and here is a blip of the article:

Accutane can cause severe, life-threatening birth defects if the mother takes the medication during pregnancy. Even one dose of Accutane can cause major birth defects of the baby's ears, eyes, face, skull, heart, and brain. Never use Accutane if you are pregnant.
Women of child-bearing potential must agree in writing to use two specific forms of birth control and have regular pregnancy tests before, during, and after taking Accutane.

That's some serious sh!te right there...

So what was your expensive cure?

And Accutane is naaaasty. But if were 15 again, I'd take it. So ignorant then. So, so ignorant. And oily.

I think the sadest thing is the way 'society' has dictated what beautiful IS. I have 2 daughters...man, it's tough for young ladies/women to grow-up these days...lots of pressure to have a certain 'look'. Everyone wants to be one of the beautiful people...and I ask, aren't we ALL beautiful in one way or another? In the dark...we all look great!

....funny we don't have problems with ugly pets either...and pets don't judge us (that we know of!)....

Never really had it bad, the occasional pimple and small breakouts but nothing serious.

I had a guy in my junior high class that had awful acne, it literally was like one big pimple on his face, always felt really bad for him, he eventually dropped out of school.

No doubt. I hate to say this but...Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. I have a 3 year old daughter and a 6 month old son. I have a few years to worry about certaing aspects of society but when they are old enough i will tell them the right things.

ACutane is ment for people with a certian kind of skin. like deeply oily skin. Which i had. but now my skin is like perfectly in balance. not too oily, not dry, no breakouts at all.... IT just is GREAT. i had regualr blood tests and all was good. ive never been happier or looked better. im all for the stuff.

I was very blessed in high school to be one of the few girls without acne, the envy of my friends, but honestly. I tanned really easy and wore little make-up which I believed saved me in the end. The only time I break out now is when I'm stressed, and only on my forehead.

Best to always consult your doctor, what I've found (for me) towards the path of perfect smooth acne free skin is.....

Water

Yes thats right, I use to use have a very dedicated face cleaning regime this involved:

(1) Wash with exfoliant
(2) scrub with astringent
(3) wash again with moisturizer
(4) Apply sun block cream

After nearly three years I gave up, because it was a battle, IN the end I just gave up, and started washing WITHOUT soap, without any chemicals/lotions etc...

The results? within a short time my skin cleared perfectly, people started commenting about the change too.

Just need to wash with clean water 4 times a day (this cleans away excess oil, the natural cause of acne etc, and any bacteria)

Just curious... could it have been time? 3 years is a long time and I'm not very informed about acne but it doesnt seem permanent in most people and 3 years seems like a time frame in which it could clear naturally. once again I'm not that informed on the subject but still curious
