Achieving The Vintage Yellow Glow Look

Hey I was wondering how to achieve that vintage film look with lens flares and that warm fuzzy glow... they use it a lot in the film The Wackness specifically at 41secs and 1:28 in this clip:

They aren't the best examples but if you've seen the movie you know what I'm talking about. I have magic bullet and FCP. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes I'm sure shooting on film helps quite a bit but I'm talking more along the lines of mimicking that look in DV. I've seen a few examples in the past here (usually with a 35mm adapter) that flicker that warm yellow bleed between shots and what not, and was looking for advice on how to do that myself, not how they did it in The Wackness per se.

Just from about 10 min of testing, I found that you can get a similar look in camera by white balancing on purple various shades of purple, warming the image up a bit and tweaking the color phase. You could probably perfect the color with some more tweaking in post or finding the right color to white balance on.

So, I took a screen grab of this shot:

Cropped out a section with skin tones, beach, and sky. Got the average color (http://www.wisegeek.com/how-can-i-find-the-average-color-in-a-photograph.htm), and then found the opposite color (http://www.colortools.net/color_complementary.html) and came out with this color:

So, theoretically, if you were to white balance on this color, the colors of your shot would look roughly like the colors in the screen grab after some tweaking.

Wow dude that's amazing! thanks so much, definitely above and beyond the call of duty. However the project I'm working on now is live concert footage that has already been shot... so Im kinda looking for a post production only fix...

sorry for the late response... it was a outdoor day time concert... heres a grab of the look I created, but I still need to figure out how to fake those lens flares/burns...

A lot of the Red Giant effects work great for giving your image a "grungy" look/feel. You might be able to create some lens flares on your own a superimpose them into the video or maybe even create them in photoshop/after effects and work them in that way, but you run the risk of having them look really fake.

by the way, it looks pretty cool...
hopefully we can see the finished product in action......
