Achieving 24p from the 5D with interlacing

So... 30p interlaced = 60i.

Now take your interlaced 60i (AKA GH1) and turn it into 24p using the same methods.

Would that work, and if not - why not?

Noo,its just 24p in 60i stream pulled down, making 30p to 60i would have double frames, you will end up with stuttery motion again because of double frames or not enough frames .Its logical.Wont work as it should.
What i think would be best option is plugin which lets you get transitions between 2 frames and make new frame from both BUT only on frames chosen by you ,not on full auto.
OR slowdown fps number to play 30p at 24fper second and then speed this up 125% by frame removing and blending (not making some frames from nothing),but its still 30psmooth movement converted to 24fps.
30p has this annoying blur on some frames ,hard to get rid of the right frames with this blur,i hate it.So fake and liquid looking. So making new frames from existing slowed down footage will blur blurry frames even more and its not good looking stuff.

30p interlaced = 30PsF. Technically the same as 60i, but still only 30 images/s. And BTW, this idea has already been discussed.

What is the problem with having 30p, in your particular case? Blu-ray supports it, Vimeo supports it.

No problem with 30p personally. Just interested in expanding my knowledge on the subject. Whoever does come up with a post trick / plugin to get non-stuttery 24p from 30p will be very rich indeed :)

It's not gonna work.

The reason why 60i to 24p works better than 30p to 24p is because 60i contains 60 different motion samples per second, one for each field. So there's more motion information with which to do the frame rate conversion voodoo.

If you turn 30p to 60i to 24p, it's not really any different than just straight 30p to 24p. 60i made from 30p is still only going to have 30 motion samples per second.

Yep I stand corrected. The 30p to 24p issue is a doozy.

24p in a 60i stream has 24 motion samples per second. It's all about the frame rate at the point the footage was recorded and there is nothing you can do afterwards to alter that, other than to add / embellish frames or drop frames. That is, unless you like slow mo 30p to 24p footage! :)

everybody has tried every method to man, i've even tried taking 30p footage through a teranex (50 thousand dollar up and down convert machine) and it still won't give u the 24p look you want, all it does is conform ur framerate so that you can have uniformity in your timeline for framerates. to get ur 24p look u gotta shoot in 24p (advanced pulldown method excluded of course)

Twixtor, Timewarp, Shake or any number of pixel motion / vector based methods work fantastically - along with a little bit of manual work I can't see why anyone should put up with stuttery 24p from the 5D.

Yup, I think that you have a solid grasp of the matter now! :)
