Accomodation Etiquette

Thanks for the replies y'all!

Lots of good points, I definitely don't have the money to spend to have someone clean the place up, I was thinking about that yesterday.

I was also thinking about the bathroom situation. Four weeks is way too long to not have your own bathroom and space.

It just hurts when you have a $65,000 budget, but $12,000 is for motel rooms.

A housekeeper usually runs about $100 or less per day. I'd rather spend that $100 than clean it all myself.

At that price range, it makes the hotel an obvious choice because housecleaning is included it their rate.

But you are right, I sure as hell am not cleaning it up myself.

If your cost of putting up the actors for a month is $12k, then I would look into renting a house. That's *way* too much to spend on accommodations.

No, no no..... the people clean up after themselves. I assume they are not 16 yr olds. Then you hire the cleaning crew to clean the house at the end of the run.

Maybe add a weekly cleaning of the house. Or semi-weekly. I imagine your savings margin of house over hotel would be more than $500-700?

Oh my. You are officially the mascot again.

I wanted to get everyone's opinion on this. What do you think about renting a private house to house cast and crew versus putting them in a motel room?

If you do go with a hotel.... since you'd be getting so many rooms for such a long period of time I'd imagine they'd give you a discount rate..... possible. Could always try and see what they can do for you. Could you stick in a shot of the hotel/motel into the film (product placement) or would it be out of place? That's what I'm doing because with my feature film, hotels are going to run me 112k... for full cast and crew, if I don't do product placement.

Another solution I found is temporary housing. Basically a 1 bedroom apartment for 30 days, furnished, with linen, kitchen utensils, cleaned twice a week, tax, cable, phone, etc.

$2100 for 30 days.

I have 2 crew people and 2 actors staying for 30 days. 2 actors scheduled for 3 weeks.

Roughly $11,000.

Emphasis on the word WOULD...

Yeah, I will look into that as well. I called my local Holiday Inn Express and the guy there told me he couldn't give me a better rate than the internet (for one room).

So today I entered 30 days in to see what it came up with and the best price was $71 per night.

I always felt I got screwed on catering on the last film, but damn, it was some of the best food I had ever eaten.

And the budget was only $20,000.

There is always that golden rule of feeding people really well even if you are paying them crap, and I have always followed that.

I am kinda thinking that proper housing should be included in that rule as well. After all, I am asking them to put up with me for 30 days.

No, it won't fit. I am actually filming in a motel, but it is going to be a seedy one where a man frequents a prostitute.

I don't think Holiday Inn would be interested in that kind of product placement. :)

$112,000???

I don't feel so bad now.
