Accidental shallow depth of field

I don't own an adaptor and cannot always get shallow depth when I want it - but sometimes all the elements come together just by chance. I shot a slomo sequence of my daughter blowing bubbles and the grab below is a result. I was only about 4 feet from her, zoomed in maybe halfway. The grass is only a few feet in back of her. Iris was on auto, shutter at 1/60.

Tight shoots like this usually have a nice shallow depth of field, if you would have zoomed out for a medium shot it wouldn't be as shallow.

And like BenB said, if you stand back as far as possible, and zoom in as much as possible and open up your aperture as wide as possible (using ND filters when needed) you will get shallower depth of field.

Great shot by the way.

If you want a full wide open aperture, you can't zoom in fully. I can't remember off the top of my head when the lens starts to stop down, but certainly at full zoom, it isn't fully open.
