If I missed this sorry about a repeat.

I was wondering if someone could find out if someone will make updates to our follow focus units, matte boxs, etc. so that we could carry them over from our DVX's to the HVX's.

I know the camera has a larger lens, etc.

I can't speak for other matteboxes but the cinetatics matteblox will require a 82mm step up ring vs 72mm on the DVX ; a good question on follow focus as the century optics one for the
DVX fits the DVX = don't know if it will fit the DVPro HD cam?

Do you remember all the heavy panting that went on here about a year ago re the Formatt matte box and how sturdy it is and how affordable it is and, oops...it doesn't fit the DVX because of the stupid onboard mic unless you put it on upside down? My first thought when I saw the HVX pix was, damn! The Formatt box will fit now.

Rogue Crew,
I own the formatt matte box and it works perfectly (no upside filter loading). All you have to do is get a second ring (72mm threaded on both sides) then attach the formatt ring to that and 'wha-la.' Sturdy as all hell and spaced just perfectly out from the onboard mic so that it never gets in the way. My recommendation, I use the 72mm ring from Cinetactics. I used to have the matte blox before I upgraded to the formatt, and I love the formatt. So, for $38 -- problem solved.
But don't let this deter you from buying the HVX as well.
$38 from $6000 aint' bad...

...more remote control capability (in addition to the familiar remote zoom jack, the HVX provides for remote focus and -- get this -- remote iris control!)...

Above from Jarred's report from NAB, so you might want to rethink follow focus. Otherwise, you would probably have to replace at least your FF gearwheel since the HVX lens is fatter (82mm?).

Chrosziel FF still feels the best. It's not even the most expensive, either.
Vocas makes the finest matte boxes. Carbon Fiber, not plasticy and cheap like Chrosziel.
Schneider Digicon filters increase dynamic range by reducing contrast and without resolution loss.
Cartoni Focus is my new dream tripod. It requires zero adjustments to feel incredible.
Zoe' controller feels great. Was really surprised how much better it felt than the stock rocker.

I reputable source informed me that we should be able to use our same baseplate and rods
assembly from the dvx100 kit with the hvx200 as they are very similar in size. If anything, it
would likely only require a single hole to be drilled and nothing more. That's a wrap on Brian's must-have accessories roundup.

Would like to add to wishlist, although it's probably too late. Having just bought a follow focus unit. It would be great if the HVX200 had standard cine style 32 pitch (0.8 mod) gear teeth on their focus and zoom rings instead of just rubberised grips. Maybe marginally less comfortable on the hands, but it would save us quite a lot of money if we wanted to use external mechanical focus and zoom accessories, as it would save on buying a new focus ring.

Speaking of Vocas matte boxes, does anyone know the practical application of this:

I've seen them used on Panavision cameras with huge lenses and matte boxes, but what are they for? Furthermore, would putting one on a smaller camera (DVX, HVX, etc.) with a matte box be useful for matting or light control, I'd think with such a short lens the matting would show up as a kind of fuzzy vignette (likewise, would it become practical with a 35mm adapter and lens?).
