Accessories for HVX170

Hey folks, I am a new user for the P2/HPX170 camcorder. Just want to figure out what accessories should I get now. I just have the camcorder with an additional 64GB E-series P2 card. I use this camera mainly for news gathering, event, wedding, documentary shooting.

Batteries:
I am thinking what kind of additional battery packs should I get, I previously saw the post some folks mentioned the dvx batteries sound pretty good. Lenmar brand also a good starter's choice? What about the S7-PHVXK Battery and Charger Kit, from B&H, any thoughts?

UV Filter:
I got UV filter for my VX2100, should I get one for my new baby? Is it necessary?

Wide Angle Lens:
Should I get one, like the Century Optics brand? Which one is better?

Wireless Mic system:
I used the Sony UWP series, and it's pretty good, and the current version is UWP-V6, is it a good one for a starter? What about Sennheiser Evolution G2 or Azden 325ULX? I probably go for a Combo system (includes the plugin transmitter and Lavalier Microphone, or with 2 lavaliers)

Shotgun mics:
Should I get one? My friend who used the HVX200 and said the on camera mic pickup pretty good, no need to get one, any idea?

Questions about offload the P2 media:
I have a 2.4ghz MBP, and a 667 Mhz Powerbook. Is my powerbook ok to do the job without any adapter like the MBP needed?

Anything else?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new camera.

A few things off the top would be:
Case (if you don't already have one)
Extra Batteries (Jarred/Alex are both great)
Extra P2 card (E-Series are very affordable now)
Light Kit?

As far as the other items you listed, you'll know when you really need to
pick them up.

Good luck.

Mark

Batteries:
the batteries from spec-comm have served me pretty well
http://www.spec-comm.com/store/index.php?l=product_detail&p=80

UV Filter:
a lot of folks swear by them. others avoid them like the plague. i say unless you NEED the filter it provides OR are shooting in a hostile environment - leave the lens naked.

Wide Angle Lens:
depends on what you shoot...? but century/schnieder/16x9 are all reputable sources

Wireless Mic system:
i like the sennheiser evolutions better than sony. i have a combo kit i bought from fullcompass.com that has 2 each evolution tx/rcv and two countryman mics. work well in situations where the budget doesnt allow for a true sound guy.

Shotgun mics:
yeah. i have a couple for different situations.
sennheiser mkh416 for general ENG stuff
and a shure vp88 stereo mic for LOUD situations, like live music or anything where id need stereo

Questions about offload the P2 media:
your old powerbook should be just fine for offload as long as you go get the latest panasonic drivers.

there are other things like mark mentioned. lights, case and you cant forget a good tripod (which is about a grand just to start)

Thanks! Folks! Very good suggestions. I have a tripod (Manfrotto) and Kata Case, so I can save some bulks on them and move on other stuff. :)
