AC power for GH2?

I just got my GH2 and realized that it doesn't have an AC power solution included. I've seen a thread about an adapter that allows you to power your GH2 with the RC car packs, but is there an AC adapter for running multi-cam studio shoots all day long?

Yes you buy the DC adaptor DMW-DCC8(this is the one that people are using with an RC battery) and the AC adaptor DMW-AC8 together to use it from a powerpoint

Fantastic. I just checked Adorama and it's backordered. So I have a camera and one battery, and the AC adapter and additional batteries are unavailable. Woo-hoo, 1.5 hour production days, here I come!

I love Adorama, but they really should put "backordered" or "out of stock" on the DCC8 page so people don't waste their time trying to order it.

I ended up paying $10.03 more ($19.99 + $4.99 for shipping) at H and B Digital, but it was worth it.

As Dazza says, you will need an AC adapter to go with it -- but it doesn't have to be the $59.95 Panasonic DMW-AC8. A $25 AC adapter from Amazon works just fine.

I would suggest an 8.4V AC adapter made for camcorders instead. This way you will know that the output is well filtered and will not generate a background humming noise.
I personally used one like this.

I had to make my own adapter from a piece of wood.

See here.

Good luck.

That's awesome, tyampel. With $7.55 plus a block of wood and a little ingenuity, you built a substitute for something that Panasonic charges $75 for (if you can find it)!

Sadly, I don't have your DIY skills, but I was able to get my hands on the DCC8 for $25 -- and the $25 Amazon adapter is plug-n-play with it.

That said, for folks who are handy with woodwork and splicing or soldering wires, your solution is a lot better than mine.

brunerww,

How much extension do you have with the Amazon Adapter plugged into the wall to your camera?

Thanks

It looks like the DC Coupler (DMW-DCC8) gets inserted into the battery compartment. But that cable will prevent you from closing the battery cover. That's no good. Is there no way to get AC into the GH2 with that battery cover closed?

The battery door will close all the way, there is a rubber tab on the body that you pop out and the cord goes there allowing the door to close.

The exactly message I get is: THIS BATTERY CANNOT BE USED, the battery meter shows Full, but after the message camera turns off.

I bought two random Chinese DC Couplers with adapters of Ebay (based it on which listing looked better). Bought two 9v Constant voltage regulators from Hobbyking. Opened the DC coupler, installed the voltage regulator, and voala, now I have a constant 9V voltage going into my GH2, PLUS, the added bonus that my camera is polarity protected other than on the camera mainboard.

Total cost probably about $30 per setup, although I only use one.

The message indicates that the voltage coming in is under 8.4V.
Fo some reason they specified the voltage as 8.4, while it shouls be at 9.3, like for the GH1.
So when the voltage drops even very slightly to 8.37V the camera "thinks" it is a battery not AC attached.
As the batteries are "chipped" the camera expects some handshake signal, which it is not getting.
Get another PC adapter that prtoduces 9 to 10V.
See my posts at the beginning of the thread. The adapters for Sony DVDs are perfect. Make sure the plug fits though.
Good luck.
