Absolutely STUNNING Cinematography And The LADIES Are HOT

TRUTH IS BEAUTY

An Absolutely Stunning, Provocative, and Beautiful Commercial That Celebrates ALL Women: http://tiny.cc/CLPqd

We are a rag tag group of filmmakers who honed our skills making a movie for the past five years in our spare time. We recently stepped out and decided to create a body of commercial work by entering contests. We produced 7 commercials in 7 weeks on a grueling schedule, but had a blast doing it.

Check this one out and make sure you share it with all your Red Rock Micro Film Maker Friends.

This was shot on the HVX200 with M2 adapter and various Nikon lenses. I love the M2. The best investment we made before we started shooting Eye For a Tooth, the movie we've been working on for the past 5 years.

Here are some screen shots the recent beauty commercial we produced:

Did I mention I love the HVX200 with the Red Rock Micro M2? If you watch the clip, please leave a comment and let me know what you think. Oh, and don't forget to pass the link on to all your filmmaker friends as well.

Looks great man. My only critiques are that the beginning part seems a bit long before you get to what you are actually trying to say in this. Personally I would bag the black and white "beautiful" part within the first 30 seconds, less if possible. The transition "static" part seems a bit hoaky to me, I'd lose the test pattern and just bust in with a hard music transition. Also the text at the end staggers a bit, not as smooth as it should be. Looks great overall though.

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers!

Absolutely MARGINAL Cinematography And The LADIES Are eh? at best

this is pretty much crap. start to finish.

first of all, it took you 1:35 to (poorly. with a ton of editing mistakes) establish your joke? hell. after about 45 sec i just assumed this was a high-fashion ad...
it took nearly another minute to establish the sarcasm.. and then the horsey faux-film fx? transition into the color bits?

once youre there. whats with the lady wielding the sledgehammer? you never see it past the first scene... you should start the "i am beautiful" bits immediately after the sledgehammer. otherwise you have even less continuity than you started with - which is NONE!

there are a number of potentially really nice shots here but your TOTAL lack of logical storyboard or continuity destroys the whole production!

NO.

Welcome to DVXuser. This is only your second post here. WGZN's comments are bit harsh to a new member, but he is not entirely wrong. This is a great place to get some constructive criticism. If you can take it, you can learn a lot from all the talented people on this site.

I would encourage you to re cut this into a :60. It does suffer some continuity problems, but you have some really good images. I think the continuity problems are coming from a common mistake. You like the footage and are unable to chop a bunch of it. We have all fallen in to this at one time or another. Just because the shot is pretty doesn't mean that qualifies it for the final edit. Re cut this to a 60 second commercial. It will force you to use only the shots that complement the narrative and also watch your focus on the adapter and don't be afraid to stop down a bit..

Some really nice images and I hope you lend your voice and your talents to the DVXuser community, but just a word of advise. Perhaps if you had not declared your own work as stunning it might not have prompted such a blunt response.

Nice job and good luck.

See, concept wise, here's the thing. The ladies you used are attractive and some would be considered "beautiful".

You needed to use women who were less visually appealing to drive home the concept that beauty truly comes from within.

Your work is impressive, and you have made some very good images. That being said, the video, as a commercial reel sample, is too long. We have made quite a few guerilla, locally produced commercials and we got our first gigs by showing multiple minute long experimental, music video inspired works. However, your video is designed to be a commercial sample and I don't know anybody, that you are probably going to be able to pitch that is going to make a 3:14 minute commercial. You need to cut your sample down to 60 and 30 second examples and I would try to cut a 15 second example, as this seems to be the ADD web spot standard length that I am running into. I would keep a long version sample, but, your current version need to be cut down. Go in and make a diligent effort to cut a full 60 seconds out of this version. I think that you will like the results. Put that together with a 60 second spot and a 30 second spot, and you shouldn't be afraid to pitch any one with your work.

jason is correct on all points (especially on your rave review of your own work) and i do apologize if my review was more harsh than needed. like everyone has pointed out - there IS some good footage here and i like what you were trying to do. i just think you need to develop your storytelling and editing skills.
