This is a video about youth rock climbing. It is not a well known sport. However, it is gaining in popularity in our area.

Remember to select 1080p if you have a fast connection.

I shot this with the Panasonic DMC-GF1 and a bunch of inexpensive but fast manual focus lenses. They are essential for shooting the extremely low light situations in the indoor gym. Anything less than F 2.8 is useless for video in the gym.

Most people don’t realize that low light video is affected so much by the aperture used. If the aperture is too narrow then the shutter duration will be increased. However, the camera can only increase the shutter duration to about 1/60 of a second with 30 FPS video.

When taking stills with the GF1 you would typically use 1/20 or even 1/15 shutter speed in this gym. That is impossible to use with 30 FPS video.

The lenses I used are below:
Panasonic 20mm Pancake F 1.7
Sigma 30mm F 1.4 Nikon Mount
Canon 50mm F1.4 Canon Mount
Olympus Zuiko 50mm F1.4
Nikon 50mm F1.8 Pancake
Canon 35-70mm F2.8-4.0
Nikon 85mm F1.8

Let me know what you think.
