About to shoot 24pa with boom mic, any issues?

I heard there's some audio syncing problems (either 2 frames ahead or behind video). I have the first DVX100 (not "A"). What are the issues? Thanks, I want to be prepared.

I'm jealous. I'm stuck here in Amarillo. You live near my favorite kiteboarding getaway!
The audio is two complete frames delayed in 24pa on the original DVX100.

Thanks, so I just need to shift the audio in Premiere 2 frames to the right?

Oh yea, I was at SPI yesterday...got car stuck in sand:)

Right -- the audio precedes the video by two frames on the DVX100 in 24p mode, so you shift it to the right by two frames to get perfect sync. Some applications can do this for you automatically -- I think FCP's capture tool provides for this capability, as does DVFilm Maker.

The DVX100A has no audio sync issue.

Hi Thisiswells!

I read you're from Amarillo. The other day a saw a Spike Jonze doc called "Amarillo by morning" about three young cowboys. Have you seen it? I thinks its very nice.

Or save yourself some hassle and do it when you capture. In Avid I always have it delay the audio by 2 frames whevern I capture footage. I'm sure other NLE's have similar options. I used to just nudge it on the timeline, but that got old real fast.

Uh, sorry guys.. it appears I wrote "audio" instead of "video" in my prior post.
Goes to show how a simple typo can imply something entirely different. Oops...

Hi Zab!

I have all the Director's Label dvd's including the Spike Jonze disc with "Amarillo By Morning" which is titled after the well known song by.. Chris Ledoux?

It's an interesting view even though it sort of kicks fun at the rodeo lifestyle and portrays cowboys as uneducated youth who make poor decisions. Real cowboys are masters of their trade and honestly, I've seen better documentaries on them. A lady from Colorado made a film titled, "Behind The Chutes" that captivated me by showing me a rodeo culture I never knew existed: the financial hardships, the love of the sport, physical and emotional pain, lost romantic relationships, eventual burnout, and all in a way that doesn't paint them as the village fool. But, hey, I enjoy nearly everything else Spike has directed... His music videos are superb in concept and "How They Got There" is particularly amusing!

It should be noted that the "Amarillo" documentary was actually shot in the Houston area, not Amarillo. I haven't seen it though, but heard about it.

Thanks everyone for your help with the audio problem.

Does this effect sync in 24p (f5) or is it only 24pa (f6). I am surprised I have never heard of this before...

I always shoot in f6 so I can't speak for f5, but I think it's only a problem on the original DVX models (as others have mentioned). I do know that on my DVX100P it's definitely a 2 frame sync issue in f6 mode.
