about head wear, lubes, capturing decks...

I have a dvx100a and a older and cheaper panasonic ds-28.
I always kept separated tapes shot with the dvx100 and with the other. and never mixed them. always used the dvx to play back tapes shot by herself only. furthermore, the dvx100 always worked with maxell tapes. never had a dropout with the dvx.

It would seem obvious to use the dvx100 to shoot and the ds28 for capturing the shot footage into the PC for editing, to save head wear on the dvx100.

But I need to use the ds28 also with other tapes (recording and playback) of other brands, recent and older.

:smiley_do
My question is: is it still ok to use the ds28 as a capturing/playback deck for what i shoot with the dvx100? Am I dropout safe in this way? what about the lube mixing issues? and after a 'dvx' tape has been in the other cam, is it ok to put it back in the dvx for playback if i experience dropouts in the smaller cam?

I wouldn't. If I *had* to mix tapes, I'd clean the "deck" machine before putting in an MQ just in case I ever wanted to put that tape back in the DVX.

But I only use Panasonic tapes, so...mixing should be less of a worry. As long ast the DVC tapes I use with the "deck" cam don't go all flaky. ;-)
