I found a used Panasonic HVX201AE for sale.
According to the vendor, the camera is in mint condition but has 3000 hours as the timer.
I think it´s a lot of hours.
How much life have such a camera left?
Dare I buy it?

3000 hrs, that's more than plenty, depending on whats it been used for it may be a bargain or a lemon. the old adage is that about 2000hrs heads were beginning to get near end of life.
I personally would not buy one with so many hours, most cams i've sold over the years have had about 900 to 1200 hrs.. By doing that I can say confidentaly to the buyer they have plenty of
life left in them.
I'd suggest you look for a HPX170 with low hours- here's one that may be a bargain with low hours n usage-this one is PAL if that suits your needs. anything under $3000AUD would be a baragin.

these P2 card only cams may give longer service life than drum based cams, time will tell on that, they may even have "self destruct chips inbuilt", most modern electronics these days seem to fail at about the same time making me wonder if
obselesence is "built-in".

I bought one similar some 6 months ago , and it's a little gem..
