I just wanted to mention that I just got off the phone with the Abel Cine people.  After calling a bunch of different places, they were the only ones who A) Knew what I was talking about and didn't try and sell me a reg dvx100  B) Were honest and told me they didn't have exact info yet (Last Week) but that they would have it very soon. C) Are shipping it tomorrow!

They are professionals (I dealt with them a while back when purchasing an A-Minima for my school.) Highly recommended. Interestingly - the best service comes from a company that deals a lot in the film world -as it should.

Will post results with how it matches up to the reg 100 when i get a chance

Thanks for the heads up Matt. I have never dealt with Abel but have heard good things. We are excited to hear your results!

I ordered my DVX100A from AbelCine on Friday morning, and I got it this morning at 9 AM. They're quite a business. Order from them!

yeah i was over at thier place in staten island, picking up a dvx100a, looked like they had about 5-6 left, they started with 13.

They also have all of the wonderous Chrosziel accessories... the problem is that all of their stuff is on average 100 dollars more than b and h... unfortunately, because they have a nice setup. I also hate that they have no mics other than the panasonic... an ME-66/rycote/gitzo combo in their prebuilt kits would really sweeten them for me.

Does AbelCine have a web site, or a tele. number to contact - I'm interested in some of the Chrosziel products also.

Thank You iamloser for your responce.
I'm still waiting for a matte box that will fit the pana -anamorphic adapter. The matteblox looks hopefull and I thought Chrosziel was coming out with one that does not require altering the anamorphic adapter. Those DVx 100A sure came out fast I hope they don't run out before January when I plan to purchase one.

..the dvx100 will be discontinued and replaced with the production of the "a" model. so there should be plenty to go round as long as the first shipments are substantial enough.. :)

Think I got # 13 of the AbleCine batch. Seemed like real good folks to work with. I will use them again. More personal than B&H for the most part it seemed.

Just got my 100a from B&H today Dec 29th, no problems, in stock, gave me just what I asked for and nothing more EXCEPT: I decided to go with the Petrol bag, rather than Porta Brace, it was out of stock, and was coming in later in the day, so they're shipping it to me at their cost, and throwing in the Petrol 3.5" hood for the 100a, as a little bonus. Granted it's a $20 freebie, but still, it's free. As far as I'm concerned B&H is still the place to go, if you know what you need, just walk in and walk out with it in hand. Sure you can find items cheaper elsewhere, but no one has the reputation and huge physical presence to back it up. In addition, everyone is selling the 100a for exactly the same price, six months from now, it will be a different story.

Which Petrol bag? Canon/Hoya filters?

I am about to purchase a similar combination today. Which bag did you choose?

"Petrol PMUB-1 Mini U-Bag 1 Camera Bag - for Canon GL-2 Camcorder" ?

Also, I am getting UV and ND filters and so far my choice are the Hoya ND 8 and the Haze UV(0) (S-HMC) Super Multi-Coated.

And lastly, after reading the forums here, I decided to use AY-DVM63PQ tapes.

Any comments on any of those items?

:-/Gotta update what I said about B&H in my post yesterday. I said I bought the Petrol case, and they threw in the 3.5" monitor hood for free.
WRONG!! I was looking online today at the B&H website, and it appears that is a combo package they're offering right now, the bag and hood for one price, so he didn't give me anything free. Secondly, he told me it was out of stock and was coming in later in the day, and would ship immediately, maybe that day or the next day (today, Dec 30) well I called today to check my order status, to see if it had gone out, and they told me it was out of stock and wouldn't be in til after Jan 1 at the earliest, so my salesman told me a couple of fibs, nothing horrendous, no bait and switch, no hard sell on any items, but untruths nontheless. Will I complain? Maybe, since he did nothing illegal, it won't help much. Will I stop buying from them? Probably not since I haven't been harmed monetarily, but I will take it all with a grain of salt next time, and mind you, I'm no novice in buying video gear. :-/

FYI B&H salesmen / saleswomen work with no commission.
I spoke to a person yesterday and they were very helpful in answering all my questions so I asked if it makes a difference for them if I order over the phone vs online and the person said no.

Now I'm waiting for my DVX100a.
