A7s with Battery Grip

Is anyone using the Sony battery grip on there a7s? If so how long does the two batteries last while recording? I noticed the batteries last longer when not recording or just using the camera for stills.

I have the grip, its almost always on my camera. I shoot short takes and shut the cam off between, so I don't know continuous run time. Video has to be more processor intensive because it definitely sucks more juice. When shooting only stills I can go almost all day and fire hundreds of frames. When shooting video I'm changing batteries more frequently. The grip just makes life a little easier with less frequent battery changes.

Thanks I was able to shoot video for pretty much 3hrs straight on 1.5 batteries. So I am thinking I will get the grip to makes things a little easier. I also find the camera hard to hold in its current state so I want the grip for that extra heft.

That's pretty good battery life - everybody's been saying it's awful, that's definitely workable.

I'm using the grip mostly to aid in stability since I am shooting everything handheld with no OSS lenses.

I use the grip for filming. I like the form factor better with it on. It uses one battery and then the other and you can see an indication of what's left on either battery in the viewfinder/lcd.
It's a pretty reasonable price too. If you get it do read the instructions on removing and storing the battery door.

I actually saw a comment on the B&H reviews saying that this is not possible.

I was also disappointed that the camera doesn't seem to charge over USB when it's on. It doesn't even use the power. Or am I missing something here? Just got the cam today.

Photocris and Dracuir,
What about the position of the shutter on the grip? Did you feel it was a problem when shooting video?

There's an On/Off switch on the grip that allows you to disable it's buttons. Works great. Definitely a must have purchase if you are shooting for long periods of time. My only gripe on the grip...you "can" swap out the first battery inside the door while the camera is still running which is a great feature...BUT...it's next to impossible to get it out while the battery holder is in place in the camera without maybe rigging it up first with a string or something to help you "pull" it out. I decided against doing that and have found that it's still awesome to have double the juice and also a little better side grip IMO.
