A7S - using the xavc-s files in Avid? Best slo mo option?

We just picked up the sony a7s to use with the dii ronin here at the us open tennis tournament. Our editors are using Avid and can't seem to take in the xavc-s files. Are you able to use these files in Avid directly without transcoding? I can see and use the files no problem in my personal computer using fcpx.

Second question, what's the best option for slo mo, using the 720 / 120 or 1080 / 60?
And if i need to transcode the files to get it into avid, will that effect the slo mo files?

thanks for any help.

I would imagine the 720/120 vs 1080/60 is an artistic choice based on how much or how slow you need/want your footage to be and if you are okay working with 720p material instead of 1080. You'll need a higher shutter so if you go 720/120 and want to double the frame rate that's gonna be a 1/250 shutter which means going higher in your ISO. Granted, you can go pretty high acceptably on this camera. XAVCs works just fine in Premiere, but I have transcoded something into ProRes with no issues. As long as you keep the frame rate the same on your transcode, it should have no adverse affect on the slow-mo at all. I haven't tried to transcode 720/120 footage though so I'm not sure about that. Good luck!
