A7s S-Log2 grading challenge: would it be possible?

In the video below, there is an interesting use of S-Log2. It allows to show the background without clipping, but after grading, it introduces clipping in the background, not too much, but it clips. I was wondering if thee is a way to recover the contrast and gamma of the image, mainly in the shadows, without clip the highlights in background... Maybe a custom curve or a custom 3D LUT... See:

I would say this is a case for secondary CC. In other words use motion tracking or manual rotoscoping to correct parts of the image in different ways.

You could initially CC for the BG then track and use matts to separate the darker parts i.e. the speaker etc and correct them as appropriate. This is easy to do AE or Resolve.

I don't think you even need any secondaries. Just a softer curve on the highlights and then bring up the mids a bit more if the softer highlights darkens the image. Could all be done with one curve or really any lift gamma gain functions.

The curve tool is your friend when de-logging footage.

This is just a gamma correction and custom curve in photoshop.
