A7s S-Log look without using S-Log

After extensive use and experimentation I've come to the conclusion that shooting S-Log 2 on the A7S isn't working for me. My grading skills aren't up to it, the high ISO is difficult to use shooting in bright sunlight, and I find the image too noisy.

My question is - is there a way of shooting in another PP like Cine 4 or Cine 2 and getting the same creamy cinematic look as shooting in S-Log? Is there even a difference between graded S-Log after a LUT and shooting in REC709 from the start? or is it a placebo effect? I'm currently shooting in a modified Cine 4 profile but even then I find that it has a different feel to S-Log2 footage, even though the dynamic range difference is pretty small in my experience.

I'm very interested to hear if anyone else has found a solution or if this question has even arisen.

Take a look at Macgregor's Cine 4 >

Replicate S-log 2 dynamic range while using normal iso values and avoiding noise.
Underexpose by 1 2/3 stops and bring back in post.

Black Level: +15
Gamma : Cine 4

Black Gamma > Range: Wide , Level: +7
Color Mode: Pro ?

The thread went cold, might need to dig more by yourself.

Thanks Pat I have used that profile although I've been a bit perturbed by how impossible it's been to find real-world examples of that profile in use.
I'm yet to use it on anything.
I'm currently using a modified Cine 4 profile and I've switched from Pro colour to Cinema colour mode. I feel Pro was a bit unnaturally saturated and that might be part of the problem - particularly with it's treatment of reds and magentas.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the differences/best colour modes? It's very hard to find any definitive info about the differences between them.

I tried all the colour modes and went back to S-Gamut (with SLOG2). Never found one that didn't have a significant problem in one area such as over-saturating a rich primary colour as you have also found. S-Gamut is a bit peculiar but it grades well in Resolve although it's more difficult in Premier Pro. In the end you have to just experiment with the different profiles yourself as everyone has their own taste and nothing I've seen from the A7s yet looks truly 'natural'

I'm with Shirozina. Everytime I try a new profile, I end up going back to slog2/sgamut, even with it's shortcomings, i still feel it performs the strongest overall.
