a7s + Rode Videomic

Hey!

Can somebody with Videomic Pro can help me? I wanted to know if there is any difference in a7s audio if you use Videomic Pro with +20db and with 0db gain. Maybe there is no need for Videomic Pro and standart Videomic is good enough.

I have the non-pro videomic, and just for the smaller size and not-so-prone-to-breaking rubber bands, I think the pro would be worth a shot.

I have both.. I can run a test if you like on an AG-AC160A to see, for a constant input, what the range of options are for both mics.

Do you think that would tell you anything?

I have the pro and have been shooting with the +20db function enabled just because I was used to it coming from Canon :D. Havent even tried without it...........

Thanks, but I wanted to know how good the preamps are in Sony a7s. I know that if you use Canon dslrs you definetly need a Pro version of Videomic because of the bad preamps. I read that a7s audio is much better and maybe the preamps are good enough for non pro Videomic.

Preamps are definitely better. That being said, I recently fed a senheisser wireless directly into the A7S and found the audio much cleaner if I turned down the camera's input volume and UP on the wireless' amp. The camera is capable of excellent audio in my testing, but I still would try to avoid cranking up the internal amp too much.
