People cry a lot...just a few years back top of the line dslr models like the fantastic nikon d3s also had 12mp of resolution and not only noone complained but it was a dream camera. Only a few years down the line at once 42mp is even not enough for some kid to photograph his friends gig............ currently canon 1dx has 16mp.....slightly more than a7s and that is canons undisputed big boys camera.

Nice pics btw specially the 4th....low angle and the flare from the light works perfectly

For whatever reason people get way too wrapped up in specs, no idea why. I'm mostly a video guy but I did do a few model photography shoots for a local company and used my Sony A7S with the 55mm f1.8 lens. So far everyone has been very happy with the results and no one to date has ever mentioned 12mp being an issue. In fact no one has even noticed the lower resolution.

Nice shots!

Only time it hurts is if you crop into APS-C mode. Then the pixel count really drops. People that like to crop love higher count.

Lovely shots.

I love my A7s for stills. You need to get some decent lightroom profiles sorted, but once you have then it's wonderful, great skin too.

And i love 12mp, with 64gb cards it just doesn't matter...

cheers

I really want to start using mine more as a still camera, but I don't have any FE lenses yet... Only full frame lens I have is the Samyang 35mm but it's too big and no auto focus... And it's just 5.1mp in aps-c crop, which really is too little...

This was shot with a Canon 24-70 and manual focus. In some cases it's liberating to break free from auto focus.

I use mine with voightlander primes, all manual. I find it totally liberating way from auto focus and it's also good skills for shooting in general. Really worth a look.

what is it with the bs of liberating effect of not having af? Let's get real af is great, but for still subjects you can get away with manual.

i miss autofocus when taking stills sooo much. after a session i pray for sharp pics. now i only film with my zoom nikon 2.8 set and take photos with an old zeiss jena or jupiter lens.

I like manual focus even for stills because it slows you down and forces you to THINK about what you are doing. Of course, if what you are shooting doesn't allow for a slow pace, it's a disaster. Right tool for the job, etc.
