A7s - Long Recording Times?

Does anyone else have problems getting consistent recording times? I use the A7s as a 3rd or 4th camera at events and I can't seem to get this camera to give me a consistent recording length. I press it to record, it turns off at 5 mins in. I press it again, it records for 20 minutes then stops. I press it again and get 12 minutes. Am I having power issues and should get it checked out? If this is how the camera is, I am going to throw up on B&S. Too unpredictable for me. Lovely camera but its unreliable for event work.

I never had such issues with my Aug/14 bought A7S. Recording internally I always could record more than 20 minutes (I film displays with durations of +20 minutes most times). Recording externally with O7+ I had several occasions with 60-120 minutes continuous takes (started by cameras record button). There was never an unwanted stop.

What is your firmware version? And what codec, resolution and framerate are you recording to?

Haven't really updated the camera yet. Ver 1.1

I record in multiple settings. I have the correct SD cards and all for the codec. I have problems recording in XAVC S and AVCHD. I don't use MP4.

Cool, the update error out right before it finished. Now my camera won't turn on. I think I have a dud. Going to contact Sony.

Many people had the same errors updating firmware on the Sony A6000 and A7II.

They were able to get it to update by trying a few times, even when camera was non-responsive. I think pulling the battery and reinserting between attempts.

It's been a while, I'll Che k older posts.

I tried it again. Updated fine and works great! When I get back from my trip this weekend, I will setup the camera on my desk and do some controlled tests to make sure I can repeat the haphazard recording. Thanks for saving me the headache of calling Sony, for now! :D

Is the max recording time 30 minutes?

Yes it is. You can extend it buy pressing recording button again. I personally filmed about 5 hours nonstop without any overheating issues. Naturally I had to stop for few seconds in order to change the battery.
