Gah, wanted to test out the slow mo feature of the A7S II and at the same time, experiment with SLOG, both 2 and 3. SLOG 2 has worked well for me so far outside of the high frame rates....but when I tried it at night time in 100fps mode...quite noisy. I thought that maybe it was because I did it at night time and that I used a medium lens that was cropped 2.2 in..but then I realised that my Tokina 11-16mm would be the perfect lens for this high frame rate application..and in theory, because a great wide angle lens for slow motion...
But then I made the foolish mistake to think that SLOG 3 during day light at a skate boarding park would look great at high frame rates. I exposed 1.5 stops over and shot wide in daytime...still VERY noisy. Bite me once, shame on you, bite me twice, i'm the one who deserves a slap. Theres no reason that noise should have been visible at during the day even with SLOG 3 and stuff. Either this 100fps thing is super broken, or SLOG 3 and 2 just doesn't work well slow mo due to the combination of the crop and SLOG's being noiser than other profiles.
So yeah, my advice to anybody who's thinking about combining SLOG with 100fps/120fps....don't. You'll get a headache. I've seen some stunning 100fps videos online with the A7S ii, so I know it's possible, but I think its heavily dependent on profiles.
Anybody out here have advice for capturing slow mo in the cleanest way possible? Like what picture profile and stuff? Speaking of which, what is the least noisiest picture profile in general?
