a7s II - Short Narrative + Anamorphic

Hi there,
Wanted to share this short film I recently DPed on the A7s mkII in Full Frame UHD (internal) with my Lomo anamorphic prime lenses.
Was an interesting set-up logistically speaking, but it felt like the right project to try something new/a little risky.

Even though I'm probably in the ballpark target group for this kind of short – sympathetic to all manner of artzy-fartzy-ness – I thought it was a bit overwritten/overdetermined. Got very little emotion out of it, even though the actress was good.

But it looks stellar! Shots in the attic are particularly lush. I'm searching high and low for good examples of color from the A7's, and even though this is the slightly less camera-demanding faded/muted look, it's definitely a tick in the plus column.

I'm glad you liked the look I was able to get from the camera. I was pretty satisfied in the end myself (I normally shoot on my RED and grade the raw files) but the Sony cameras are the only cheap way to get a full frame sensor which I wanted to try with my anamorphic primes. The look I did in the grade is pretty muted indeed and even then some of the shadowy skintones were on the verge of going to hell. So I would say that I would definitely want to try recording externally next time to see how much that helps - too bad it's still 8 bit.
