Hey,

I have a A7S ii, and I shot some stuff at night with cine4 (standard settings). But I did not like the colors at all. I prefer the look slog2, but at night is too noisey, even during the day it is quite noisey. But what other pp's and settings can you recommend?

Thanks!

Based on this article it's not recommended to use log profiles in low light situations. You are wasting the data.

What slog2 settings do you use during the day? You should overexpose it by 1-2 stops and underexpose later in post.

After I upgraded from A7s to A7sII I'm still trying to find a proper way how to overexpose properly without any grey cards around. What I'm currently do I set the zebras to 63 and +-5. I also set the exposure dial to +1.5 stops on the camera. When I see zebra lines on the skin tones I assume it's overexposed by around 1.5 stops.

According to this article skintones should be between 54%-72% (1-2 stops).

If anyone has a better overexposing workflow, please share.

Yeah I expose 2 stops over(unless it clips, then I go back down). But my problem is not exposure on the A7S. But the colors/noise. Despite the Slog2/slog3, I do also like the look of PP off. All the other cine pp's seem to make colors incorrect, more reddish/orange.
Has anybody tried the EOSHD pp already, and is it worth it?

Autumn leaves -3 contrast/0sat/-3sharpness is a pretty solid picture profile.

Also dont be afraid to play with your custom white balance(not just the kelvins, but also the HUE diagram that comes after) - it can help fix your colors, especially when your indoors.

Iv'e had good success with slog2/sgamut3cine/saturation+24 but not a lowlight profile.

I like the result I get with settings based around these parameters:

Cine2 gamma and S-Gamut3.cine colour space
Black level at -15
Saturation at +32

Low light look nice and the image doesn't need to much push in post. White balance can be a bit tricky under certain ugly streetlights but I found a bit of trial between the different white balance settings and it looks good.

I use the same settings, but at saturation set to default. How comes you boost saturation so much in camera?

Iv'e had a hard time recovering saturation when i leave it at zero - and with the a7sii sensor+Sgamut3.cine, i have yet to encounter a situation where i clip on a color channel(aside from dance club Blue LEDs, but almost every sony camera clips there no matter what). I find that in cam the saturation holds better.
