Our first shoot with the Sony A7S. Shot 1080p60 1/60th shutter with Picture Profile 7 (Slog2), with Color Mode changed to Cinema.

Graded in Premiere Pro CC using color curves and saturation, the same setting applied to all clips. The goal was to see how well the A7S handled skintones under very challenging, changing lighting conditions: low light, multicolor spots, etc. NR was only used on the first clip (very very low light).

Shot handheld using the Sony SEL18-200mm APS-C lens (FS700 kit lens), AUTO ISO, AWB, AF (center spot focus area), IS, manual zoom, built in mics. With this lens and settings, the A7S makes an excellent low-light live/event camera.

and these aftermarket batteries (2 Sony's came with the camera; 4 batteries total for perhaps 1/2 to 3/4 day shooting): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EAQ0262/

Wow that is quite amazing low light performance. To bad you went with Auto ISO as I would have been interested in hearing what your settings were. I guess given the venue and constantly changing light conditions AUTO ISO was kind of a must?

Did you crop the image for compensate for APS-C Lens Vignetting?

Yeah, the low light performance makes the camera a very useful tool, even with some color issues. The lighting was constantly changing, except for the white spotlights on the models. The main spots were blue and red, thus the red, blue, and magenta hues. Some models had a green tint to skin- could be AWB from surrounding light or the Sony color science (which has a yellow/green issue when using the S-gamut Color Mode: in testing it looked like Cinema Color Mode was OK). When I have time I'll do another cut and WB the shots to have the best possible skintones.

Did not do any (post) cropping for APS-C mode. There's are settings for lens correction in the menus (Shading Comp. and Chro. Aber. Comp.)- I left at default: Auto.
