a7s 60p xavc-s not conforming in fcpx

Is anybody else having this problem?

I've shot some footage with the A7S in 60p XAVC-S and when in a 24p timeline in FCPX... automatic speed does indeed set it to 40% (as it should)... but it plays stuttered, as if the frames aren't there.

I was going to just throw the footage into compressor and re-render at 24... but compressor can't open it.

Any ideas?

Did you shoot at least 1/125 of a second or higher (frame rate). I've made the mistake of shooting at 1/45 and paid for it later with stuttery motion and frames. Otherwise, sounds like you're doing what I'm doing but my playback is smooth. Different machines might need to render first for smoother playback (check your viewer quality setting) and having any grades applied is about only other thing I can think of causing any drag. Weird.

the stutter i'm talking about is like 2 frames repeating (as in, going frame by frame)... not a shutter speed issue, which would look different.
when just playing back to footage (not in the timeline), I can tell that it should look good as its much, much smoother than the 24p

I had the same issue in Premiere after shooting some 60p/50p this weekend. Some clips played fine and others stuttered. Playing back frame by frame revealed duplicate frames during the whole clip. I'm 90% sure its related to shutter speed, as I was varying it between clips to compensate for light.

This happened to me today, but using Edius. The frames seem to be duplicated. Any ideas what is happening?

It turned out to be a shutter speed issue. Which is weird... the shutter speed didn't adjust to the minimum that a frame rate SHOULD do (like on the fs700)... so if you don't change it, you'll get duplicates. It's weird.

So are you saying that anything lower than 1/125 and you will get this problem in slow mo?
