A7RII - Speedbooster for FE lenses?

Wonder if anyone can direct me, I have the 28mm F2 lens (SEL28F20) and would like to be able to get the full frame experience of this lens in cropped mode. I've been looking at the Metabones Speedboosters but I'm not sure which I need (or if there actually is one that works for my lens). Most look like they are designed to speed-boost, but also convert from AnotherBrand --> Sony.

Thanks!

You can't use a speedbooster with FE lenses. It's for lenses designed for a longer focal flange distance, like Canon EF and Nikon F.

Thanks - that would explain why I can't see one.

Is there an eqivalent device that uses the same principle? I want to be able to focus the full frame picture around the the video crop of the A&Rii. Presumably the theory is just the same?

Should be able to use a Nikon/Canon/etc. speedbooster for E mount when in crop mode. It will certainly vignette in full mode. hat said I don't have any Sony cameras, so going on theory alone. You can probably ask Metabones and make sure to tell them you are running in crop mode. They should be able to answer. Alternate would be to rent a booster and lens from some place like Lensrentals.com and give it a try.

like samuel said, there isn't and won't be a speed booster for FE lenses. FE lenses sit very close to the sensor. you can't fit any more glass between them. just shoot in full frame mode.

Fast full frame EF mount lenses like Sigma 20mm F1.4, 24mm F1.4 and 24-35mm F2 zoom should work with a speedbooster or get fast APS-C lenses like the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 or 50-100mm F1.8 with smart adapters. Sigma also has the new 30mm F1.4 APS-C lens in E mount.

Thanks for all the answers. I'm new to interchangable lens systems so obviously not got it straight in my head yet.

An FE lens sits very close to the sensor on the camera, but is designed to cover the entire full-frame sensor. I'd have thought that inserting something between the lens and the sensor could work to refract the light into the crop area of the sensor, but I guess the physics just don't add up.

If the 2k crop mode is s35 crop of the vistavision sensor, then perhaps you could get a thin/dumb FE-EF adapter, then use that to bridge into an EF-E mount speedbooster.

if the 2k crop is larger than s35 area, then there is a chance of vignetting.

If if you have a chance to try this either at a local shop, or by renting Hess items from, say, an online rental place, then you can confirm whether this will work for you.

The problem with that is the following: when you put a lens further away from the sensor, you are focusing closer. In fact, on my vintage glass, everything the focus ring does is "move the glass forward to focus closer". Given how much space you need to fit the speedbooster glass in the middle, you end up with a "deep macro only" lens. Unless you want to take pics of very little bugs, this won't work (and even if that's what you want, with a 28mm lens it's likely that the focus point will end up being so close that it is actually inside the lens).
