A7RII 4k premier sequence?

Hi guys,

I've just bought an A7RII and I'd like to know how to create a 4K sequence to match it's properties in Premiere Pro CC 2017 . What I did so far was: 1- Open a project, import the 4K footage then "right click" and choose "new sequence from clip". But then when I go to sequence settings it shows me "Red cinema" in the editing mode field (I could not find Sony A7RII) and then in "video preview" it shows full hd width (1920) and height (1080) instead of 4k...and when I try to change it it goes back to full hd.

I usually just click-and-drag the clip over the "new sequence" icon. It definitely has the correct resolution and frame rate, but I never checked how it's flagged (that "red cinema" thing). It just works.

In Premiere the "editing mode" is insignificant. It's not like some other NLE's where you have to match the format/codec in order to allow smooth editing. Just use whatever presets or custom settings that will get you the frame rate and resolution settings you want. My guess it that because R3D was one of the earliest (and most popular) formats to get 4K DCI support, it has become Premiere's default template for 4K DCI - so if you use the "new sequence from clip" or "drag and drop" methods to create a new sequence from any file that matches 4K DCI res, it just defaults to the Red preset. There will be no difference in performance just because the "editing mode" does not match your format.

Regarding the video previews, I've always just left mine to the default 1080p mpeg-2. This is the format your timeline previews are rendered to. I don't know why it won't let you set it to 4k - I've never bothered to try - but your final exports will still be 4K DCI, unless you turn on the "use video previews" option in the export window.
