A7R II tethered to Capture One Pro?

Considering the A7r II for a stills campaign but am concerned how well it tethers to Capture One Pro 8?

Typically I use the 5D3 for these gigs, & will have a rental available, but am headed out-of-town for a couple of weeks, & only a couple of the days are stills oriented (the rest are motion) so the smaller A7rII would be easier to transport, & I'd leave my personal 5D3 at home.

I'll be shooting portraits in a studio tethered to the DigiTech's Mac Pro (OS 10.10.5) via Capture One Pro (8.1.1). The pace will be a bit hectic, & I can't afford to get bogged down in the process, so am concerned about the stability of the tether, & transfer speed of uncompressed Raws, plus the camera's usability in this configuration, especially compared to the 5D3 (or Nikon 810).

Also a bit concerned about moire.

Thanks,
Bern

the one big head scratcher to me about the A7rII is usb 2.0....42mpix and usb 2? tethering does work but it is slow, especially compared to 810....i haven't tried capture 9 and there is also a capture version for sony users but that is probably the same (there is also capture for dig backs)...i rarely shoot tethered these days but a friend who really only shoots tethered and has both 810 and a7rII only uses the nikon because it just works so much better....

Paul,

Thanks for the timely, & informative, response!

I depart tomorrow, but have a pre-light day with the DigiTech on-set, & don't start shooting until Thursday, so would have time to test. However USB 2.0 is a non-starter.

Thanks again!

Best,
Bern

Purchased Capture One Pro 9 but stopped using it shortly after as it didn't allow me to save backups to both computer/camera(big nono for me, should have checked before buying). Found lightroom to be a much better experience. If clients are in the room skip uncompressed raw(minimal performance increase) and usb 2.0 can be a real bottle neck. For any studio work where clients are on site I default to my 1DX(cat5 is instant and super reliable).

Moire has been nonexistent thus far. As far as tether reliability goes, it's as good as any of my other cameras. One cool aspect is that Sony packages a cool little hdmi/usb cable holder that screws into the side of the A7 and prevents accidental pull outs.

Sony's sensors have caught up and in many ways surpassed the others in performance(I actually much prefer its IQ over my 1DX), but they still have a ways to go in other areas like UI, Tethering, Flash triggering, File naming, AF adjustments, etc.
