a7/r/s cage?

IMG_6331.jpgIMG_6332.jpgI bought a case by MOVCAM specialized to A7s. The design is good, it fits very well, but the screws they use have a very bad quality - they are very soft so that it can happen that they loose the grip and you have a problem to get them out with your screw driver.
But if you are willing to buy a complete set of new and better screws (as I did after a lot of hanky panky to get them out) its Ok for that price (159 €). An advantage for me is, that you can use the hotshoe further on, unfortunatelly the XYST Sony Stereo mic does not fit, because you cannot adjust the handle in the height.

The shop CVP, where I bought it online, does not made any attempt to resolve the screw-problem - they have not even replied to my e-mail.

Hmm, this stop me from buying. Where do you get the whole new set of screws?

I bought them online here http://www.probolt-usa.com/aluminium/aluminium-bolts-flanged-hex-race-spec.html and you will need this sizes:
Alu Inbus Schraube M4 x (0.7mm) x 10mm Alu Inbus Schraube M3 x (0.5mm) x 8mm
You have the choice between different colours and material.
Now, with the new screws its a very good cage.

Thanks Benn.
It seems that the top handle can be moved sidewards slightly (by just one or two screw holes). True?
Also, do u know if the top handle tall enough to accommodate the hot shoe XLR-KL2 adapter (the one that goes directly onto the hotshoe, not the other one which I know fits)?

@Alan, you will need 6 of the M4 and 2 of the M3. If you take two more of each you are on the safe side :)
@Aly, sorry I cant find out if the KL2 will fit, because I dont own one, but as I wrote: the Sony hotshoe mic XYST does not fit, but you can push the handle indeed for 2-3cm left or right. If you do that the XYST Mic fits, close but its useful after all.
The distance (headroom) between the hotshoe and the beginning of the handle is 5,2cm. Btw this cage has a HDMI lock, I forgot it in the picture.
Hope that helps

Cvp entry says Color may vary. Bhpv lists the gunmetal grey only. (As does an Australian retailer). When I know I can get it in black I'll be ordering it. Benn, did you get to choose the color of cage or it just turned up black and their picture was black so no need to question?

cheers

Mines on way from dragon image. All their stock is black, they just didn't change their website from the early photos. Anyone may find the same thing elsewhere or mileage may vary. I'd be thinking bhpv will probably fix theirs if they receive black only stock

I bought mine on ebay and got black just because the seller said there's a wait for the silver. Incidentally, mine ended up being $320 US including the riser, rod attachment and 2 rods, so significantly cheaper than many retailers - ebay is often worth any risk incurred from buying, I've found. Good seller and fast shipment, too.

I have a couple of questions for those with the Movcam A7s cage.
Can the top handle be completely moved from the cage? Can the original Sony supplied port protector still be used with the cage?

Just received mine. Haven't had a good look yet, top handle and port protector definitely removeable . Have not tried original protector yet but will

Still think the motion9 cage looks most appealing. The thumb support and the cable holder that doubles as a handle is what sets it apart from the movcam version. Or maybe I've just been charmed by the lovely girl in motion9's videos? ;)

I dont think that the original Sony supplied port protector will fit together with that cage and its not necessary, because in my opinion the MOVCAM protector works very well.
I completed my cage with two handles by coollcd http://www.coollcd.com/basic-handle-v6-black-rubber-w-male-14-inch-thread-1121_p1121.html , because I couldnt imagine to work with buildings around my A7s as shown in the motion9 video.
Btw the coollcd cage seems to be a inexpensive alternative to the MOVCAM and others.

Benn, could you please upload a photo of the port protector that you are using from Movcam, I could not find one on their standard cage.
