a7/r/s cage?

Too many cages make it difficult to impossible to attach XLRs to the active hotshoe.
If that's your unswerving requirement...you should consider something like

I'm not sure if there is a hotshoe on top of the new XLR adapter to get a mounting point - does anyone know more?

I was thinking to go for the wooden quick cage but hey actually i lke very much the Walimex rig, look very good! I also trust german product for cameras, lens and well cars :)

Has anyone ever used the Aptaris ?

So Walimex Aptaris cage.... no one has tried it?

I did tonight with my new A7s. Worked nice. It's adjustable which is great. I'm new to cages so I really want to work out a better quick release setup for taking the camera out of the cage, etc. rather than having to bring a screw driver. The cage is solid. I got the extra XXL extension too in case I wanted to use it with a vertical grip. I don't have that grip yet so no feedback on that yet. I do also have the XLR-K1M so it's nice to be able to adjust the cage to fit the little MI shoe. However, that takes away being able to secure the cage to the top of the camera. I wish there was a way to secure the top of a cage while also using the XLR-K1M but I don't think there is. Even so, it's pretty solid. Again, I'm new to cages but this and the wooden camera seemed to be the only one's I saw that were adjustable and big enough to fit a vertical grip if needed. And this at least comes with a cold shoe and a handle. I shot a wedding with it all today and it worked out great. I've got to sit down with it tomorrow to maybe make a few adjustments. I kind of got it in the mail, set it up and ran off to the shoot so I'll explore it better over the weekend.

$400 for that cage? Jeezus....I think I'll hunt for a chinese copy, thanks. That's crazy prices.

I agree. But I don't see many other choices when using the XLR adapter + Vertical grip (for extended battery time...we shoot events). I'm sure there will be more made for this camera and maybe then I'll sell the Walimex but I needed something right away and it seems to do the job. I'm definitely open to other ideas.

In a long run and in a professional context, I don't think it's wasting money to investigate some $ in a good shooting cage.

For now, look like the wooden cage may have my preference but im open as well to other suggestions...

I purchased this one a while ago and the a7s fits like a glove: http://www.supamods.com/product/run-n-gun-cage/
Trough i have replaced the evf mount for a more solid one one (tilta) and i don't use the dovetail system because is too heavy for the tiny a7s system.
I'll post pics of my setup soon

I'd love to see your setup. While I did get the Walimex cage with the XXL extension and it works well, I'm still open to other options. The caveat is for me I want it to fit the camera, the vertical grip (for more battery life), and the little XLR adapter plug thing that goes into that multi-interface port/shoe. I like how both cage options are adjustable so I don't have lots of excess space. I should be getting my vertical grips in 2 days so I'll see how it all fits together with the Walimex. But I think I've got a nice setup going. Also, I've rigged it in a way that the XLR grip goes in front of the cage's hand grip so it's one nice big comfortable grip. Might be hard to visualize without a pic. :)

I will post the pics of the setup as soon as i get the handles that i ordered a week ago.
Looking forward to see your setup too.

On their site they mention it's 154mm x 165mm max. Is that true and is that the space available INSIDE the cage? Also, is it 165mm high or wide?
Wish I could try before I buy. Seems like it takes a while to ship and there's a 20% restocking fee if returned. Bummer.
