A6000 or RX10II? aps-c vs 1" but both with xavc-s/420/8bit

i have been a sony shooter for years->pd150->ex1->fs100->fs700

i have a buddy who has a fs7 and is someone i enjoy working with.

but there are also situations where i need something small for either b roll or a VERY non-intimaditing interview set-up.

most of these projects will be distributed on client websites.

i have been drawn to the A6000, in part for the $400 price, and also it's access to xavc-s and it's lovely aps-c sensor.

(i really wish audio in was an option-and yes, erik naso's insights do offer a solution)

i also have several e mount adaptors and manual focus lenses for use with the a6000 from my time with the fs100/fs700.

and then there is the rx10ii offering only a 1" chip but also an intro to 4k and full access to audio in/headphone monitoring.

a6000/$400 or rx10ii/$800?

both have xavc-s/420/8bit which if exposed properly can produce a quality image.

(yes-what i REALLY want is a blackmagic pocket with pro res/4k/10/bit and sound inputs but that camera doesn't exist!)

i look forward to the collective wisdom of those who care to share.

be well.

RX10ii is marvellous, excpect for the zooming while filming.. $K is good B-roll for FS5 / FS7

I just picked up a used RX10 II that I'm personally loving its all-in-one form factor. I've yet to use it on an actual shoot (just did some test shoots) but just like leteeci mentioned, this is something I am comfortable using along with my FS5 for b-roll as I have seen its footage very capable (planning on hooking it up to my Atomos Ninja).

A6000 can obviously be used with different lenses but considering it wouldn't be your main camera, RX10's lens is nice/good "enough". I think it will surely come down to how you'll determine that. But just like you know, audio monitoring on a whim is great alone.

I love my RX100 IV (thread about that love over here).

The RX10 has the same sensor and codec, but I don't like the lens: I don't need that reach, I need sharpness and, given the 1" sensor, an aperture as wide as I can get. That's why I went with the 100. If you need the longer reach, then the 10 is the one for you, but keep in mind that the lens is a bit softer and the aperture is super narrow for a 1" sensor (deep DoF absolutely always).

Also, the RX100V is out now, and that's actually the one I'd suggest, since the one single thing I'd like to improve in my IV is the autofocus, and that's what the V improves (a new 10 model with this improved autofocus should be out relatively soon, I guess) (you might put mic-in and headphones-out as a bigger priority, but I always shoot external audio when I need it anyway).

As for sample footage, I'd suggest this one for "best overall image" (and also an example of somewhat-shallow-DoF which I thought wouldn't be possible either with the 100)

And this one for "very nice DR", which I guess you must value, if BlackMagic is what you'd really like (yes, I'd love to get a $2500 pocket with the 4.6k sensor):
