a6000 Mount Loose. Is This Normal?

I just received my a6000 and love it so far. Such a great little walk around camera and so far I really like the image and features but when I put the Sony 16-35 zoom on I noticed when I change the focal length of the zoom the mount has some play. It actually clicks on the mount when I rotate the zoom from wide to tight or left to right. I checked my A7s and it's tighter but with some play however it doesn't click from when zooming in and out at all. The lens locks and has no wobble just seems loose and hits the ends of the mount making the click sound. I dont see any visual issues in the shots just very annoying feeling with the 16-35 lens. Manual focusing doesn't do this since the focus ring doesn't have as much damping as the zoom.

I'm wondering if I got a dud or is this normal with the a6000 The 16-35 zoom has a lot of damping but still I just need to make sure if the camera is defective I will send it back.

It didn't happen to mine personally but I've seen on the net where it was more common than it should have been. Supposedly someone out there does a titanium mount upgrade specifically for the a6000 to cure this problem.

A friend rented a a6000 to take on vacation. He was hoping the A7rII would be available before he left but it wont. I slapped my 16-35 on his and it does the exact same thing. At least now I know the mount isnt as tight as the A7s is. It's not a deal breaker. He Also bought the 24-70 f4. Nice lens. Small and light wish it was faster but then it would be heavier too.

Fotodiox makes an after market mount for the A6000 called the Tough E Mount. I got one for my A6000 and it seems to be as solid as the A7s mount. It's worth the 40 bucks it costs. Especially if you are using bigger lenses and adaptors.

Good to know. It works flawless with AF and normal lens communication?

It only replaces the mount, and it doesn't touch any of the electronic contacts, so lens communication shouldn't be affected.

If you click on the link in my previous post, there's a video showing you how to replace it and some user feedback in the comments section.

This is great! Thanks. I'm going to get one. Looks easy to install too.

Yes, I've had zero problems with it. Gives me similar characteristics to the A7s mount. Now when I've used these cameras with a adaptor and canon glass I've always experienced a little play with E-Mount, especially when using a follow-focus. But with this adaptor I've been able to use my FE 24-70 and 70-200 with no play. Even when using a follow focus on the lens. I think the difference is that the A7s used a full metal mount and the A6000 uses a combination metal and plastic mount that has more play.
