a6000 external microphone connection? (workaround)

Has anyone tried connecting external microphone using this http://nexexternalmic.com (I'm by no means connected with that seller) or some other adapter? Obvious solution is using external recorder and plugging in Rode Videomic Pro's cable into there, but I'm trying to think of smallest combo possible.
Apparently Sony's XLR-K1M is not working with a6000.

Zoom H1 would be cheaper than this and no bigger really. It also has a 3.5mm input - I use one with a Rode Video Mic Pro and my Sennheiser wireless.
