"A Wish for Wings" (24-hour contest entry)

Alright, backstory- beginning this past Thurday night, my school (Savannah College of Art & Design) hosted this 24-hour guerilla film competition, wherein at 9:00 PM on Thursday the applicants were given a topic and genre, and by 9:00 PM Friday the entries were due on CD or DVD.  Our topic given to us was "Someone who dreams of flying" and our reguired genre was drama.  Here's our entry.

This thing definitely borders on the surreal/ mildly strange, and (thankfully) that's what we were going for.  All four of us in our group directed so some extent (as well as worked on story).  My friend Natalie edited and put music to it, Matt and Mia acted and made Mia's costume, and I was director of photography (and responsible for construction of the jetpack).

It's called "A Wish for Wings", and it's just under 5 minutes long.  Mia's agreed to host it on her webspace.  Enjoy!

Wow!

How did you do the flying effect? ;D

Nice job. One day I'll enter one of these contests myself (the curse of not doing it when I was in school). Having judged a contest like this before, I must say yours is way above average. Plus, I learned that jetpack-on-angel violence is still a relevant social issue. ;D

Re: "A Wish for Wings" (24-hour contest

couple of questions:

Was the song composed within the 24 hours FOR this piece? i thought (though could be mistaken) that i heard the word wings in there.

Def. interested in time managment, when did editing start, did it start before production was done, and how much time was spent on preproduction, specifically, the costumes, drawings props. And did shooting begin before they were all complete.

I guess if it's not too much trouble, you could post a schedule of how the 24 hours were spent. I just love 24 hour film competitions and am trying to get my own team up to snuff. We've been training constantly. That said, I can only hope we can perform on this level of production, I've never seen so many THEME related props. Surely you went the extra mile to really hit the nail on the head.

Really, really, really nicely done. Especially in 24 hours. Please heed Target Dog's request and post your work flow for this stuff. I'm interested to know too.

u can't always get what u want, but if u try sometimes you get what you need or something like that. I think u did a great job in 24 hrs. the story is a little trippy hippy, but it was well done.

That was a great video! I totally didn't predict what was going to happen at the end until it started happening! Great job. You had some cool effects there with the flying and there was some very good camera shots. A few times you had the camera moving closer while the character was walking closer and that "look" came across really well for this video.
