A warning to all you impatient, bantling, un-fathered scurvies...

Wet poodle
When this camera is in all of our hands, there better be more footage piping through these webboards than a marching band on fathers day. All this bantering better result in some good footage by all ya'll haters out there. I swear to Moses, all this impatient whining, I want my camera, I need my camera, but my clients?! They already paid me!? If you booked a gig with a camera you don't even own then you're the idiot..Panasonic please do what you need to do to get this camera out safely. I will gladly wait and hold my tongue, knowing that when i finally get to pick this thing up, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, 8 weeks down the line, it's going to make me happy because 1one, I waited patiently for it and 2two, I know that a lot of hard work and time went into every square inch of this thing.. I think in todays society we expect things NOW and pee our panties if they weren't here yesterday..We're not dealing with hubcaps hear or the g35 :lipsrseal  This is something that will feed our families, further our careers and push us as filmmakers into the netherregion of multiple possibilities. Shoot with your DVX or your HD1 or your Z1X5000, save up some more money, smoke a bongload, eat some cheetos and put your feet up and just waittttt, and shut the hell up too,,  :embarasse

INSERT: Sound of me yanking your soapbox out from undearneath you..........so that I can insert my own. :)

Now, why don't you tell us how you really feel. :)

I like onions because every time you peel off a piece of skin you are presented with a new skin. But what's in between the onion layers???

Tell me that Jim Kilgour, tell me that...

YEAH!!
Everybody needs to just eat some bongloads and smoke some cheeto's, dammit!!! You sons of bitc..... You know what?
Barry and Jarred offered us some lovely little snippets of what this camera is capable of and things have gone to hell since then. Could there be a tad bit of operator error? I for one don't intend to use the camera at full auto. Let's wait for a bit more footage before we decide to storm the castle. Until then, eat your damn cheeto's.

Lay off the PCP.

Please, at least keep this HVX BS, argueing and bickering, out of our cafe. Keep it and leave it in the HVX section, so I and everyone else, who are in a sane state of mind, don't have to hear it.
Thanks. (sorry, the mod in me took over)

When something is as hyped as the HVX, the arival is bound to feel a little anticlamactic. Sure, it's a great camera. The DVX is a great camera and so is the XL2. The HD100, yep. The XL H1, I'm sure it is too. I do not own any of them, however, since I prefer to have the choice of all of them for each project. I'm involved with three separate features in the first half of this year, one will be shot on the DVX, one the Varicam, and one on 35mm. Now I'm not knocking those who shell out the cash for a camera that they love. I love my little Sony TVR 950, it's small and has a great picture, but of course I don't use it to shoot features.

I've always felt that the choice of camera is just another part of the production. Different productions can benifit from different cameras and different looks. It's like being able to choose whatever brush you want for your next painting. I have moved away from film in the last few years, but that doesn't mean that I won't go back to it for certain projects. But if I owned the HVX, I would feel obligated to use it on every project because I owned the damned thing.

Being able to work in a variety of formats is one of the coolest thing about being a filmmaker right now.

I know this is DVX (HVX) User, but lets not be so camera-centric that we close our eyes to all the other possibilities out there. Of course, doing it this way means you have a budget to work with, but if you don't have a budget then you are putting the cart before the horse anyway. Learning how to raise the cash is THE most important things to learn in this business.

So I hope you new HVX owners will be happy with your purchase, and if you don't mind, can I rent it sometime?

Damon gets my vote for post of the day.

Thanks Barry, that's like a late Christmas present. Now go play with your HVX while I sit here in pure jealous agony watching Death to Smoochy.
By the way, I got so caught up with the title of the thread, I didn't even realize we weren't in the HVX forum. My apologies

Jeez you weirdos... I can't believe everybody has already forgot that you had an incubation period for the DVX before you understood how to get what you wanted out of it.

If you were anywhere NEAR the initial stock of DVX's then you were just as stupid as the rest of us with "what's that clunking sound?" and the funny thing is I don't think I've heard it since.

In the first week I knew I liked the cam but I was only doing a little better then my TRV900 footage... until two weeks of getting comfortable with the DVX... then it was totally no contest.

I wouldn't be in such a hurry to see just how good the HVX footage is going to get... because you'll find out how bad you want one SOOOOON enough... trust me on that.

(this is coming from somebody that will NOT be able to get one)

I plan on winning an Oscar the first time I turn the damn thing on. Is that too much to ask? :)
