A User owned and operated bittorrent TV Network?

Re: A User owned and operated bittorrent TV Networ

Far from losing steam, far from losing steam. My day job as a bass player has me dragging all over the map. I'm currently soundchecking for a frat show in Oxford, Mississippi of all places. One of the brothers has a WEP-Free wifi router apparently.

JBarnes, later tonight I will email you the FTP info for FLOODTV.COM, if you want to set up a forum there, if not, I can do it. I would suggest as soon as we decide to really go for it, that we take care of the business side and spread ownership of it (the domain) because I don't thnk any -one- person should be in charge of it, it sort of defeats the whole philosophy, yeah? ;)

Okay, it's real rough right now...but anyone interested in joining in this discussion/effort should pop over to www.floodtv.com and register.

There's a basic site and forum there to host this discusson. I built this all this morning, so it's very very rough and unfinished. You'll have to register to start posting on the forum, but it will be relatively painless to do so.

Hope you get a chance to check it out.

James,

My browser can't find www.floodtv.com.

It's possible that the domain name hasn't propagated across every server involved yet. It should be connecting today or tomorrow if it hasn't already.

I visited this site and found it interesting in general, but not quite sure how it fits into what's being proposed here. On the other hand, I know nothing!

On the other, other hand, if you scroll down to "Forums" and then look for "DIGITAL MEDIA FORUM III: 48 Hour Movie Making", there's a REALLY interesting stream with Stuart English (and he is), VP of Panasonic Broadcast, where a talks about how the DVX100 came into existence. At one point, he leans over and picks the DVX up and the audience applauds. Go check it out.

Hey, why not cross promote once we get our crap up? We could host a cinequest.org program on floodtv.com?

How about a conference call to get some ideas out quickly? I can host it, if there's interest.

I can also give you all a basic tutorial/web demonstration of how Bittorrent works and maybe that'd help with the tech side of things. I'm very familiar with the tech of it and sometimes it's a little easier to do a personal demonstration than reading a bunch of docs on the net.

I like the FloodTV brand name. I think that can work very well. This conversation has developed into something very nice.

How about VIDEO conferencing? Anybody set up for that?

Re: A User owned and operated bittorrent TV Networ

Yikes...I do video conferencing all day in addition to my regular duties. Unfortunately, I don't have capabilities to do video conferencing at home.

We do have a reliable forum setup at floodtv.com to post and respond to questions until we get a little more active as well.

Phil M. also took some initiative and wrote an email to one of the bloggers who has popularized the idea of using bittorrent and RSS as a startup video network, he's responded and was quite supportive of our efforts.

It seems that while this is an interesting idea, no one is really taking initiative on it yet. This presents a concrete opportunity for whoever gets to market first.

Stay active on the FloodTV forum...and keep recruiting people to join up and help or bounce ideas around. Momentum is as hard to maintain as it is to build.

Yeah its a Genius idea, as soon as we get it going this thing is going to take off! we don't have to worry about server bandwidth issues with bit torrent, freaking genius! Anyway, as far conferencing i think is a great idea, we could have some brainstorming sessions! Momentum!!!! lets keep it moving!
