A Storybook Story

some nice steadicam / dolly work going on there. over all some very nice shots, could use some better cc on the shots of the reception where there was less light.

good stuff : )

Nice work here. It looked like you did a great job, and you had some really nice steady shots. I liked the POV shot coming down the aisle.. did you do this after the ceremony or during the time they were waiting for the bride to come out?

Thanks for compliments..

slimjimmed: My wife and I were the only 2.

I have a separate intro video and reception video. Both music video types. Then we have a separate video with the documentary of the day.

Hectorxd: the shot moving towards the groom? If that's the one you're talking about, it was not "THE" aisle.. it was just a separate area of the park that looked nice and I had the grooms side of the party sit for me while the bride was getting pictures.

Still working on CC.. the reception really got me because they said there would be plenty of light. Then they turned it down to where I could barely see my hand in front of my face. OK, so I'm exaggerating. But it was dark. The reception portion is a lot of work and I converted some to BW to hide the graininess from the gain. I'll post that later perhaps.

Thats one thing that annoys me is that the brides always want the reception and often the wedding to be dark and then they complain the video is too dark..

Actually, this DVD will have 3 music videos. an intro that plays right after my logo, which can be seen

here

then it will go into the ceremony shown above, then into the reception.

reception

Please keep in mind I'm still "fixing" these (especially the reception). C&C still welcome, of course.

You said the first track was from the Princess Bride, did you have to go through any legal things or pay rights in order to use it for the video?

And where did you get the music for the Intro and the Reception?

The videos are fantastic! It's a pity the light is so poor for the Reception though. Nice work.

There have been endless discussions about rights and music on these boards.. so I'm not really going to address it. Hope that doesnt disappoint.

I'll put it this way though.. when I got married, our videographer asked us to give them our favorite music that I already owned. When I got it back to me, I got a video which contained that music.

I'll leave it at that.

It will take some serious smoke and mirrors to hide the dark sections of the reception.

Man, I shoot and edit weddings/events a lot and can honestly say this was one of the best clips I've seen here. Besides the great fluid camera work, I really loved your exposure and focal length choices. What type of equipment was used in your shoot? I couldn't tell if it was a dolly, glidecam, jib, or all of the above.

I feel for you on the low light reception. My sister-in-law's reception was like that and she didn't want a light shining in people's faces. I spent more time trying to correct the dark footage than actually editing the video.

Editing events can get very boring. Seeing quality work like this pushes me to better myself. Thanks for sharing.

rocketscience-

This is real quality stuff. Either these people at the wedding were all having the time of their lives, or you captured them at their absolutely happiest, or both. This was really nice.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you get such smooth tracking shots?

Rick

Thanks for all the compliments. After seeing and admiring so much great work here, I can never consider myself on the same level..

We used 2 DVXs (As).. and my DIY dolly. If you search on the thread titled "yet another dolly" in the DIY forum you can see how it was constructed. Some dolly shots werent perfect; I just layed the pvc on the uneven ground.. but it came out decent enough.

I did rent a video light. But only used it for the big events.. speeches, dance, garter, etc.

The couple and all their friends DID have a great time. They can have a great time doing anything. Easy to shoot.

This was my first wedding.

What, exactly, did you use for the dolly shots? Super smooth work- really beats the vasaline on a long wooden sawhorse...

Nice work..actually really great work. I have some guy named Robert Smith on the phone who wants his music back. Screw copyright! It's a damn wedding.:)
