A storage option to consider

so, y'll can delete this if it makes no sense, but I talked to Rick at Macgurus.com today and he said he was modifying this and building rackmount with LCD for this:

now, obviously the 8 bay needs modiyfing, but here is the equation:

8 bay + G5 + LCD + rackmount= recording 1080i with the hvx 200

all you need is a place to power up.

will that work?

Yes, that is very doable assuming the HVX will stream the DVCproHD footage over firewire - that is way too much storage to lug around though - I would opt for a laptop, 4 drive rack and a nice cart for it. Remember, you have to find power for it and it should be quiet so that your sound recording on set is clean.

It is confirmed that the HVX will stream DVCPRO-HD footage over firewire.

Soarprod makes a good point about noise -- even when using DV Rack, I cringe at the fan noise on the laptop. An 8-bay drive array might sound like an airplane taking off by comparison.

Of course, that can also be solved by a really long firewire cable -- keep the bay in a separate room, and chain to it with a 75-foot FW cable...
