A small teaser

There is too much white IMO. Makes for a boring image. The colors seem really bland. Other than that it's pretty cool, and DID actually get me interested in seeing it which most trailers fail to do. Also, audio needs some work. Keep us posted.

Thanks for you reply man, About the white IMO I wanted that feel that you get when you were a little kid going into a dentists office you know. So I tried to make it as simply as possible. I want it to have a clean almost surreal almost boring look as you say, I guess it's for a purpose. As for the sound work, I agree. I will perfect as I go but this is just a teaser to get my actors going and have something to see and look forward to :).

I'll definitely keep u posted.

Looks like a good one Dmitry... as already stated audio needs fixin' but I really like the look... not really sure how I feel about the framing of your first scene w/ the two guys talkin'... Is this for reason?

Heh

Heh

Hey smith, thanks for the complement :) About the framing....The asian guy. That'd be me. So it was a shoot myself kind of thing so I really had little control in framing and I only had 1 hour to shoot it all in. As for the titles, they were quick 5 mins things in Premier. I used trapcode's shine for the effect. p.s this is probably not even going to make the final cut :0 It's a teaser kind of thing

this was pretty damn cool. Unlike others, I like the white. It's funny, I actually just posted in another thread how a white background always makes video look ugly. Yet you make it look really cool. I would like to know how you lit this scene. How it's really bright in the background, yet the faces aren't affected (are still perfectly lit). Also, in that background, the white (which is a little out of focus) sort of tapers off on the edges of the frame. How did you do this? I guess I like your style so much I just want a lot of details.

And give me some in-camera and post settings please!

Hey c.g. , Thanks for your complement. About the white. I love the thing Steven Spielberg does with overexposure of natural light. I'm not trying to compare but I always try to learn from the best. The bright light was light coming from the windows in the back, used one soft light a VS. As for the faces being still well lit I used a little sheet of board to cover certain areas that were too overlit and the dark skin helped. I also boosted it in post. Settings were at default F6 24pa. I used a friends cam no DVX of my own yet :( so left at original. White balance was at default. About the tapers, that's a DOF plug-in for AE called Frishcluft. It's awesome but the rendering time can take forever. That's about it.

The music by the way was also original. Done the same day by my brother :) I feel so special...I'm actually contemplating on shooting this short with my Letus35 so I hope you look forward to it.

Thanks for the boost, you guys are what pushes me to work ;)

It was cool. Not my cup of tea, but cool. Here's my thoughts. The framing was a problem for me. When you chopped the asian guys face off in the beginning I thought there was a reason, maybe you were hiding the guy, but then you immediately opened the frame, so what was the reason behind the cut off frame?

The editing was weird. In the beginning you have this awkward quick shot before you go to your other actor (you i think). It's the super quick shot of him sitting down I think. You have him wipe frame to establish his momentum to the scene, just use that and dump the weird one. It was jolting and the pace was way out of step for the scene.

Then you have a shot of the guy's afro for way too long. Go to that shot a split second before he moves his face into frame (which is too tight anyway). In my opinion you need to give a little more space and breath into some of these shots. I understand what you're going for, with the anticipation, anxiety and tension...but it's being forced on the audience with some of these being too congested. Hope that makes sense. Don't mistake congestion with style. Too many new directors make this mistake and it can really kill what is already a cool performance.

The only other problem I had was the hallway shot. It didn't seem to serve the rest of the trailer. It was all tension and dark, then out of nowhere some guy in a (noticable) YMCA t-shirt cruises down a hallway in flip-flops... Maybe I would have understood if I could hear what he said on the phone?

Overall, it was a cool piece, just needs some tweaks I guess. Sorry I'm longwinded and critical, I'm just a little bored right now.

Good luck with the shoot, clearly you have the talent to do well.

Ciao.

Hehe. what a great post Alveraz :) I love your suggestions for my editing. Sorry about that I'm a little rough my school has been taking my time so much I've been out of practice. Again this is a teaser for my actors not for a major public I just posted here to show you some examples and maybe build some hype. That YMCA comment is hillarious I think I have tears coming out of my eyes :P I had to hurry because my actor had to work. I just took off my sweater and shot with what was underneath. (Which just happened to be the YMCA t). I'll definitely take into consideration your advice on congestion and about criticism that's what I'm here for. Say it's jiggly poo poo and I'll still smile because someone cares enough to coment.

thanks.

really great trailer teaser man, looks really interesting. I really like the white however i find the CC went a little bit too far, wouldnt mind a little less.
