A Short in 10 Hours

I took part in a Cinemasports event yesterday. For those unfamiliar, they call cinemasports the Iron Chef of Filmmaking. They give you a list of "ingredients" to use (3 elements you must have in your film) and then you have 10 hours to write, shoot, edit and turn in your finished 3 minute film. They are all screened at the 11th hour. The ingredients for the day were Turning 30, Chocolate, and Muffled Laugh.

This event was part of the Mill Valley Film Festival. This was also my very first movie shoot with my DVX.

It was a great shoot. The team that I put together were all very creative and everyone contributed to the writing process. I started developing an idea of what we wanted to do based on locations available and my cast pool, and we fleshed it all out and had a script at 3 hours in.

The shoot entailed about 5 different setups, all using available lighting, and most on tripod. There was one scene that was all handheld and another where I used a home built stabilizer. We wrapped the shoot in 3.5 hrs.

Logging and capturing took just over 1hr, leaving 1 hour to do a rough cut and then about 45 minutes to mix audio and put the fine tuning on the cut.

So, here it is!
