Hello. I have a shoot comming up in a week. I want to film a short all taking place at New York City streets in the night. The place will be under street lights like a regular street. My question is, do you guys know of any settings I can use to achieve a crisp no noise footage or at least close to it. I am shooting at 1920x10801 24p on an hvx200 camera. I am shooting only couple oif scenes in the night the rest is daytime. It's the night I need help with. Please let me know any seetings I should try. It's really challenging and please let me know what is your take on it. Thank you in advance for all help provided.

Hi,

Like you have have just done a shoot at night using only practicle's.
Took me ALONG TIME to location hunt for places that offered enough light, along time.
I always tried to have no gain only once or twice did I up the gain to +6 but then the noise was evident.
Opened the aperture, and had 1/25 shutter, the shots were locked off so the motion blur thing wasn't really an issue.
Shot straight with no Scene files, then did the rest in post.
Was the best way I could find and was surprised really knowing what we know about the HVX'S low light capability...

Cheers

Get more lights. Get el cheapo work lights from Home Depot if you need to. They will cast the same yuckiness that you'll get from the street lights except your scene will look better and less noisy. They are cheap and compact.

Something like this...

http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Cable..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=03TT948BB6BDZA0HGTM6

These should NEVER be used as primary lighting, but I've used these to light up parking lots and stuff. For extra lighting they do the job.
