A request for more 1080 footage

Hi

It seems since the camera came out almost 90% of the footage posted here was in 720P. I don't have the HVX yet, and would very much like to see more 1080i-24P footage, hoping to find less of the codec arifects...

anyway, if any of you have some interesting 1080i-24P footage to post here, that would be great!

Isn't it the same than 1080/24p that Yuval called as 1080i-24p? :confused: Since 24 frames are achieved at pulldown process.

Excellent stuff, clean... Nowadays, I had misses of those days. And I think that's the Yuval's point...to looking for stuff like that. As filmmaker, he signed the best report from an exclusively filmmaker's POV about all the concern HVX issues to us. I'm waiting for the Jay Morris' footage. He is a HVX owner and he is an unsuspicious unbiased filmmaker reporter.

True.

It was excellent stuff, but it was shut with a pre-release model and was released as a pre-release teaser (which was extremely helpful).

However, since the camera was released there was almost no 1080 footage on-line. Furthermore, from a filmmaker's standpoint, after watching the first film-out test of the Moviola footage, which was all shut 720P, I am very much interested in seeing how much better the camera can perform for film-out purposes when originating the footage in 1080.

Since the one thing that bothered me at that screening was the combination of noise and compression artifacts (as well as less than perfect resolution and sharpness) I'm very curious whether or not recording 1080 solves these issues. Since i can recognize the same issues when watching videos posted here (whenever viewing in X2 zoom) and since I couldn't notice these issues in the pre-release 1080 footage you've mentioned, I'm curious to see some additional (more technically challenging, such as darker dramatic lighting shots etc.) footage not only in 720 but also in 1080.

and of course if there's any new film-out test of 1080 footage anywhere around Los-Angeles I'll definitely want to be there!

My intense interest in 1080 footage and film-out tests is because that's the main purpose I'll need this camera for (Feature films for theatrical release), and I am yet to be certain about what to expect visually (from technical standpoint) from this camera, and I really do want to know what to expect (and what to look out for) when using it for this specific application.

If anybody has some 1080 footage to post, or anybody knows about an additional film-out test please post it here or send me a PM.

Despite the compression artifacts and noise (though the recent Illya's post LINK), did you notice lack of resolution and sharpness from the 720p source at blown-up big screen?

Because I'm thinking if the noise of the HVX will not be solved at least@post even with a noise reducing filter, maybe I can go to HD100 (my main concern: 720p resolution@big_screen) or will it be better the higher resolution of a XL-H1 or even of the noiseless Sony XDCAM-HD series? That is in terms of 35mm film-out at big screen, the difference will it be noticeable?*

* This concern, for sure, it cannot be the major issue to other shooters but perhaps it will be so much relevant to us! How I would like to be wrong...

I have also attended a JVC HD-100 Film-out screening a few weeks ago, and must say that I would still choose the Panasonic over the JVC. The JVC was definitely not sharper in any way. The lesser color space of the HDV recording format makes it much more difficult to manipulated the footage in post, and the over-all look of the JVC HD-100 transferred to film was kind of old 16mm (not S16) with dull color and well, not the modern high-resolution the eye is used to when watching main-stream feature films.

Also, even though I've never seen a film-out transfer from the Cannon XL-H1, examining the raw footage (zoomed X2 on my computer screen) I recognized noise patterns that I suspect will give it a definite "Video Look", while the noise of the HVX (as It looked to me at the first Moviola screening) seems to look like a second generation print of a 35mm film (somewhat like most films look at the theater when not in a film festival), kind of a second layer of film-grain...

so bottom line, as far as what I know so far, the HVX is still the best choice for narrative fimmaking (among the affordable options you've mentioned)

Thanks as usual, your posts are one of my favourites here. I can tell you that after this last one, my HD100 doubt is disappearing and I'm grateful for your credential report as the definitive reliable source.

Already did you see Z1/FX1 film-out screening?

Rather its Z1/FX1 limits I'm thinking in Sony XDCAM-HD series as better noiseless option despite not be handeld as I wish. I saw a F900 noisy feature at the movie theatre that scares me enough to want avoiding any sort of noise for narrative filmmaking. And it was F900 but with bad settings. When I'm watching noise at HVX clips I'm doing the comparative. That's why if Illya's post will not be confirmed for an unbiased professional like yourself, for instance, it will be so much difficult to go in the HVX way to my filmmaking purpose.

BTW, why don't you PM Illya? Maybe he can offer us new screening possibility with the new sample, what do you think? I'm in Europe but if he is in LA, I think that he can help us in our doubts.

<PS> BTW (2) I have the same impression about the interlaced features of the XL-H1. That's why I had been saying to Pappas before his banning that the Canon didn't convince me. Nevertheless, his/its/their CineAlta comparative*. And its properties as high def cam, as well, my doubts if this feature will not be the most important point to 35mm film-out. But yes, it is too much videoish despite the excellent material posted mainly by the hands of another relevant contributor like Barlow Elton has been.

* Or even if Scott Billups or David Newman they are saying that's the best deal. But it's true as someone said, there are a lot of interest(s) out there and as we well know to a true filmmaker (not merely producer) his/her only sole brand is the motion picture.

Are you willing to host it? I am shooting test footage with my first camera right now and should have something decent to look at in a couple of days, but there is not way I can host the footage.

The best I can do is post screenshots.

And if you do want to host it, what would you like to see? I have a lot of spare time on my hands right now and it is all going to go to shooting test with the HVX.
