A Random request to C-D

Hey guys,

I'm really enjoying the 2K capabilities of the O7Q. Well done! I'm liking the 2K RAW, don't see much use for the HD DPX format.
May I make a request for future updates? I'd like to see Broadcast IRE limits shown on the Histogram. The WFM has defacto limits by virtue of the great scale. Can you do this for the Histogram x-axis?

Cuervo,

How is the aliasing and pattern noise looking with the final version? By this i mean if you shoot a flat colour, say grey, are you getting pink/green noise generated by the aliasing in the camera? And on fine detailed areas and edges, how are they looking?

cheers
Paul

Paul,
My first blush observation is that the color aliasing is an order of magnitude better. Having said that, I still see a lot of "luma" noise. However, the quantum size of this luma/block noise is much finer grained than before. In some respects, it very filmlike...almost pleasant in the way is softens without killing detail, if that makes sense. This comment pertains only to Slog2. I haven't looked at any other profiles, yet.

Curiously, the noise looks a LOT worse on my consumer Samsung monitor. When I view the footage on my Panasonic pro monitor, I can hardly notice the noise.

An interesting side observation is the FULL gamut of exposure that show up in the WFM....a full 0-109%.
Best of all, it seems VERY forgiving when it comes to grading...so much less noisy than the 8-bit version.

Not so random a request and one that is already sceduled to be addressed in a future update.

Mitch,
You're ahead of me, thanx.
One more observation/request:
When recording to Slog2, I hit the "LUT" button and the LUT is applied to the image display. Unfortunately, the LUT is also applied to the WFM and Histogram. Is this the right way to do it? I would think the WFM and Histogram should continue to show the exposure values not including the LUT. In other words, if I have the LUT selected, then determine my exposure from the WFM/Histogram, will this lead to the "right" exposure?.

In initial release, the LUT is applied globally. In a future firmware release it will be selectable for the OLED and each of the meters.
The former is how most cameras and recorders do it; the latter is a unique feature for Odyssey.
