FEATURE: A RAINY DAY FOR EARTHWORMS - Fall 2011

Hey everyone! My name is Mei Jia-Li (Gary), and in July 2010 I started work on an independent feature length film, A RAINY DAY FOR EARTHWORMS. Shot on location in Boston's Chinatown neighborhood, the film follows the perspective of an 8 year-old boy who, after having a hand in a tragedy that shakes the community, is forced to mature.

Currently we are taking a short break at 60% completion to raise funds. Please check out our Kickstarter page which has a video introduction to the project as well as our TRAILER:

KICKSTARTER page

The Kickstarter page has a lot of info and history of the project, but I'd be happy to discuss or answer any questions here on the thread. We shot the film on the HVX-AG200 with an SGpro Rev. 3 (pictures of the rig on KICKSTARTER)

Please leave some feedback!! If you do find it to be a worthwhile project, we wouldn't mind the extra exposure and donations are greatly appreciated =D. Thank you all in advance for taking the time to check out what we've been working so hard on for the past year.

Mei Jia-Li

**UPDATE 2-21-2011**
Calling all post-production specialists! We are currently looking for people to fill two roles: A color correction specialist, and an audio post engineer.

We have an April 8th application deadline for the IFP labs, a competitive fellowship that will give us the support and resources to bring our film to the festival circuit. Part of the application is a 40 minute rough cut of our film, and we are expediting the editing process in order to meet this deadline.

Color Correction: Our white balance is all over the place. Also, I have a color palette in mind, but I'm not sure how to achieve it. Hopefully you are able to make our film look consistent.

Audio Post Engineer: We recorded on-location with a combination of the Rode NTG-1 and Oktava MK012 microphones, but so far we've put little emphasis on sound -- it's messy. We do plan on doing a lot of dub work, and will strive for a marked improvement in our on-location recordings when we resume shooting. We can also work together to create an ambient sounds soundtrack (to highlight the setting).

If you are interested in joining our team, shoot me an email at gary.meijiali@gmail.com , along with samples of your work. Compensation depends on experience.

We are located in Boston, but I figure we can ship you our data + project files on a harddrive so we can edit along together. We are currently editing on Adobe Premiere CS5, but I THINK these project files are compatible with the latest Final Cut?

Thank you ALL for your consideration, and I hope to hear from you!!

Have you gotten any press? I would think for such a young writer you would have. If you have I would include that here and on your Kickstart page.

Haha sorry, I didn't mean to mislead anyone. 8 year-old Matthew Chung is NOT the writer of A RAINY DAY FOR EARTHWORMS. My intention for the Kickstarter intro video was supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek mockumentary -- a fictional account of the children running the show rather than the adults involved in the project. I apologize if that wasn't made clear in the video...

As for press....nope, none yet!

News!

A RAINY DAY FOR EARTHWORMS was featured on two popular Asian American blogs:
Angry Asian Man (Yes, we made it!)
Pacific Ties Newsletter

Also, two days ago, our Kickstarter page landed the #1 spot for Recommended projects and #1 on New & Noteworthy -- something we're very proud of, since they do take the time to sift through the thousands of projects.

These updates may seem minor, but it's definitely given us a boost in confidence! Would LOVE feedback from the community on the trailer for A RAINY DAY FOR EARTHWORMS :)
